    This morning's shave wasn't as good as yesterday, as some Knicks entered the persuasion-3 to be exact. No cuts, no Polka-dots. The 3 Knicks were piled on top of one another down at S.W. Cactus Nation. What a shame, as the rest of Cactus turned out well. Ditto most everywhere else. I can do better on the east border of N. Porcupine Alley. An OK finish to this Stoylin Spice week-end. Pretty Outstanding.

    I'm going to go as far as I can into the spring/summer with my fall/winter paraphernalia (aaah, there might be a couple spring/summers thrown in). I don't know how far that will be-we'll see.

    thinking of doing an old type mini focus .the 2 canucks,1914 and early 1920s.i am really starting to appreciate the more aggressive(poor word) gillettes lately.relieving a deeper itch..;).i won't say more efficient because my techs give me bbs shaves also.:eatdrink047:been on a kick lately with my aristocrats,#58,brit red tip etc which are all nice razors.

    They are beautiful Gary! We all have changed our thoughts on razors. I never thought that I would see a use for mild razors and mild settings on adjustables. I guess it's the transformative process of journey.

    Good afternoon!

    I usually start my Sunday shave about 4 pm, but I wanted to start early. I have used VdH Luxury soap, but I never tried the Select version. I won this soap in a TSD Raffle and I decided to use it as a stick. I used the backside of the soap so that the front doesn't disintegrate. As you can see, I kept it in a Proraso Tub for safe storage. It is always good to repurpose things. The scent was non-existent and that may be it was stored a long time by the raffle giver. The luxury soap had a nice clean scent, and maybe when this soap was new that it had a similar, light scent. It doesn't matter. The lather was on the thin side and that may be due to the fact that I treated it like my Tabac stick. Next time, I will use more soap on my face to get a richer lather. However, it was slick to give me a nice shave. Two passes without incidents for a comfortable shave was the order of the day. I was not looking for BBS, but I wanted a quick shave and that's what I had. The alum was silent and so was the FA Platinum splash. I am happy with the shave. Tomorrow, I will do a bowl lather with a straight. I haven't decided what my setup will be. I have 24 hrs to think about it.. Lol! Take care.

    I pray that you get everything you want in that environment. It sounds peaceful. I can see you having a front porch to give it that country vibe.

    Real nice Joe! Wondering what the Fine Platinum is like, I mean in terms of scent? Those MrEE brushes look nice too.

    @brit, you have a great collection Gary.

    Wishing you well with the intended move, just how far is the "sticks" in your neck of the woods?
    We have suburbs here close by with horsey people on acreage (and lots of flies), then further out we have the Swan Valley or Margaret River with vineyards etc, then we have the wheatbelt and cattle farmers (more flies), and then the wop-wops where only the tourists go (flies in all the places you don't want them, LOL). I would like more land, but at my age it's hard work, anyway I prefer to stay close to amenities (medical) and we do like being near our sons.

    PS: love the new avatar LOL (and the double entendre.)
    the King is back!

    King, (as in Charles, but also @brit aka Mr Gillette)
    Camp, (Camping will be appropriate if you go really far out to the sticks!)
    Gillette. ('nuf said) ;):cool:

    May: mini-Menthol, Mixing things up a bit. Mixing creams and razors.

    8 May 2023 border green.jpg

    Growth = 36 hours, early morning Monday.
    Prep = my usual
    Pre-shave = Proraso Green Menthol (hmm, mild)
    Soap = Mixing Proraso Green (only 40 swirls) + Palmolive Lather + TOBS Lime Zest in a bowl. Way better.
    Brush = Simpsons Chubby 2.

    Razor 1 = Gem Brooklyn NY Made in USA with GEM Blade (5)
    Razor 2 = Muhle R89
    Blade = Gillette Stainless (3)

    Pass 1 = GEM. Feels quite draggy and chattered/skipped a bit, despite Good Lather. Needed to really use a light touch, not comfortable.
    Pass 2 = R89, I can apply more pressure with this and get closer.
    Pass 3 = R89.
    Touch ups in tricky areas. ATG top lip and sideburns and cheeks.
    Swirly passes right lower neck. Working on a strategy to get closer.
    Post = Usual rinses, Alum was negligible, Thayer.
    AS = Brut.
    Cerave Facial Lotion. Hmm, this adds a nice layer of protection. Picked a small free sampler of the cream and the lotion. At last one of my local stores is starting to stock this. (inspired by @Ron R)

    The lather was super abundant, thick and protective. Very happy with this side of things.
    No more of that Dry Proraso feel, (I used less this time around). The Cerave seems to help add a layer of smoothness. I applied the AS first and then the Cerave after that, not sure if that is the best way around.

    The Chubby 2 is still new to me, losing a few hairs. It is nice and soft, but the handle is too short for a comfortable grip for me anyway.
    It keeps falling back into the bowl because it is so short! I might want to use this one just for face lathering, or get a smaller bowl, or park this in a cup between passes, or move it on at some stage.

    Overall great result, I would say 9/10 with BBS around 80% and no damage.
    Very pleased to be able to finally go ATG at he top lip.

    Plan 1 = try the Chubby 2 for face lathering. It holds a huge amount of lather, but is slippery when covered in lather.
    Plan 2 = park the Gem Brooklyn for a while. Not sure I want/need to keep it.
    Plan 3 = Add the Cerave products to my post shave treatment.

    Have a great week of shaves ahead.
