    Good afternoon.

    It's Fatboy Freeze Friday!

    1959 Gillette Fatboy (7)
    Gillette Wilkinson Sword DE (new)
    Barbury Synthetic Brush
Chiseled Face Cryogen SS and AS
    Stirling Alum Block
    Beard Growth. 22.5 hrs

    20230505_163338.jpg

I decided to venture into the Menthol May theme, and what better way than to bring out Cryogen. This soap will definitely feel like you are in a meat locker. Brrr! That's the way, I like it. Either you are all in or your not. Lol! Moreover, it's Friday so my Fatboy was a natural choice for this afternoon's shave.

Anyway, I am a cold water shaver all year round, so the effects of the face-freezing Cryogen is that much more enjoyable for this menthol head. It's the first time that I bowl lathered this soap and I must say it turned out creamy and slick. Just look at that sheen!

    20230505_163959.jpg

You really don't get the Menthol kick until the second pass and man, it's a cool ride. Although it was unnecessary, I did a third pass to continue to enjoy the refreshing and face-freeze feel of this soap. BBS was the result, but did get a tiny mustache weep that quickly disappeared with the cold water and alum. Did get a bunch of alum feedback. Maybe I shouldn't have done the third pass with a new blade. Splashed on the matching aftershave for a Menthol kick encore. I am still feeling the tingling sensation as I am writing this post. It's a good 20 minutes from the original Menthol kick until now. I love it! Take care!

    Post:
Cold water face & head wash with brush squeezing's, Cold Water Face & Head Rinse./Alum Rub. /Homemade (~Spring/Summer mix~) Lemon, Eucalyptus, Tea Tree, Essential Oils.3 Menthol Crystals Mixed Together With 200ml of Care+Witch Hazel. /Cella Bio Organic Aloe Vera ASL./Aloe Vera Gel.

    (Face & Head Shave)

A new shave set up to start the weekend...For the next month or longer I will be using both the Parker 94R. for my face shaves & the Gillette Guard for my weekly head/dome shaves.

I can't recall the last time i paired the Parker 94R together with the Korean Dorco Prime Platinum...All the Parker three piece DE razors have the same head design and are quite efficient the hefty 94R is more so than most and the Dorco PP made a smooth efficient razor & blade duo. The Dorco PP I find to be very forgiving, which has a good balance of aggression & smoothness.

What I like about my Parker razors is they have great audio feedback which I like because it's telling me the razor is doing it's job and I've found my correct shaving angle.

It's been a while since I last used the Gillette Guard. I have mentioned before when I first started to fully shave my head and before i had the shaving confidence & technique to do so with a DE or SE razor my razor of choice was the Gillette guard. It's the only cartridge razor I still add to my razor rotation and will continue to do so in the near future.

My first maiden shave with it felt like i was shaving with a potato peeler due to the tilting/pivoting head design but what I really like about is it doesn't clog up due to it been open comb having a large blade gap, one of the few if any open comb single edge cartridge razors on the market. It's excellent for tight spots and problem areas.

The Gillette Guard is easy to adjust to when shaving with it...I can normally get 3-5 max combined face & head shaves from one cartridge-head which is excellent value especially for head/dome shaving....

It's an ideal travel razor, or when you're in need of a quick close presentable face or head shave. What more can i ask for, admittedly I wouldn't replace it for my DE or SE razors but I will continue putting the Gillette guard into my razor rotation from time to time.

To be honest after my head/dome shave with the Gillette Guard today was near equal to what i get from my Injector razors which are my go to head/dome shaving tools.

If I had to choose one go-to razor for shaving my head then after my shave today the Gillette guard would be a very strong contender purely because it's such a comfortable good performing razor to use the pivoting head makes the shave effortless almost "auto pilot safe" without having to find the right shaving angle as the Gillette guard head does it for you which is a big bonus especially for head/dome shaving adding to that the replacement heads/cartridge you can get at a very inexpensive reasonable price.

My only gripes with it are the plastic issue which I suppose will be recycled in the near future somehow, and it's very light in weight which you are tempted to extra pressure when shaving with it but like any razor I follow the golden rule regardless treating it with respect and don't add excessive pressure as If you do it'll bite and cause irritation just like any other razor will.

First try of the Cella-Green Bio Organic Aloe Vera ASL which was a great finish to my shave. The scent to my nose of both the shaving cream & ASL has mild-light fresh & Citrusy fragrance which is very pleasing leaving a good post shave feel.

Another enjoyable close comfortable 2 pass + pick ups face and head shave with no errors to report. Finishing the shave off with a few small dollops of Aloe Vera Gel.

My face & precious swede are feeling super smooth & smelling divine. ;)

Stay safe, and enjoy the start of the weekend ladies & gentlemen.

I am just trying these out, some will agree with me and some won't, those that do, I will keep, the others, well, let's see.

Thanks Paul, it's my wife's vase, she doesn't mind!

Hi Joe, well it's the only Menthol I have, it will have to do. The products you mentioned are on-line only as far as I can see, no matter, I have enough soaps to keep me going for ages!

    May: mini-Menthol, Mixing and Maxxing.

    6 May 2023 border.jpg

Growth = 36 hours, late afternoon Saturday shave.
    Prep = my usual
    Pre-shave = Proraso Green "Menthol"
    Brush = Puro Tasso Boar.
Soaps = Mixing Proraso Green (60 swirls) + Palmolive Lather + TOBS Lime Zest, in a bowl.

Razor = Slim Adjustable Maximum set to 9.
Blade = Gillette Stainless (2) left over from previous outing.

Passes = usual 3 with minimal XTG touch ups. Not keen on trying ATG with the Slim on 9.
Post = Usual rinses, Alum was negligible, Thayers.
AS = Proraso Green. Mild but very pleasant.

Lovely close shave. Had to take extreme care with Slim set on 9. It can be done. Just not around the tricky parts, I guess the only way to get real close in those areas will be with it set lower or use a 2nd razor like the R89. The Slim set on 9 did test my technique, needing two hands to steady my usual minor tremor.
Happy to leave some leftover stubble for the next time.

The lather was super abundant, thick and reassuringly protective. A little bit more zing to the skin that yesterday with a pleasant lime scent coming through the Proraso. There is still that Proraso dry feel on the face afterwards, but milder than yesterday, will need to tweak this mixture a bit, definitely worth using again.

Awesome shave and post Barry! When I first started headshaving 14 yrs ago, I used the Headblade. It was a 2 blade cartridge razor with wheels. It was a very good design to safely shave your head. Ten years later, I saw the light and got into traditional wet shaving. Have a great afternoon!

Great pic, gear and shave Chris! During the winter, I sometimes use a moisturizing lotion like Nivea after my shave.

Morning shower and shave with my Parker 87R & a fresh Crown blade.
Overall pleasant shave with a couple weepers...
My allergies are kicking butt now!

The Land Ho! cream is almost gone! Pleasant scent but, it's a bit more work to lather in bowl. It needs lots of water!

Aaand, a fine shave this morning. The only glitch was in doing the complete opposite of what I said yesterday-I didn't take good care of my cut from yesterday. IIt expanded a bit, but not to the point of throwing me off stride during the rest of the shave. Stoylin soap really is a winner, and I hope Doc Ezlovan sees this post so he can be proud of his soap.(Course I know he already IS). The shave itself went well, ahh, here is another glitch-I can do better at the area surrounding my Ingrown Hairs(neck)than I did today.Shux. I'll get to it tomorrow. 2 passes. Very Outstanding. Good enough. Enjoy the Derby :).

Fine shave Hogie! I understand because my sinusitis has been worse over the last few days. Hope you feel better.
