SRS # 1290 - Sample Soap Sunday - TOBS Oud Rating: 5 / 5 Razor: Wester Bros. 6/8” 33 Fraternity Brush: Shore Shave Player 26 mm Lather: TOBS Oud Aftershave: Stirling Agar Additional Care: Omega Alum Dickenson’s Original Witch Hazel Stirling Unscented Glacial Balm Excellent shave with the Wester Bros. straight. Three passes to super smoothness. My first time using any of the TOBS product. This Oud to me has a perfume scent, not very dark. Unfortunately, the scent of the Stirling Agar aftershave did not meet the SOA of the missus. As a matter of fact she stated, “You smell like an old man. You don’t act like an old man.” The Agar by far is the darkest Oud scent in my den.
New plan: After picking my setup on Friday night for an early Saturday morning shave -- I then didn't shave. So here's the same setup now, two days later: Monday May 05 (early morning) - Monotonous May I am sticking with my declared plan of a Rule this month using this setup for every shave (hence "Monotonous May"): Prep: Hot shower or face wash with Aleppo olive oil and 20% bay laurel oil soap (traditional anti-acne) Razor: Matte black stainless steel Supply 2.0 injector with "nick-proof" SE comb plate / Supply White Label (house-branded Personna)(1) Soap: Stirling Scots Pine Sheep Brush: Semogue SOC cherrywood fitted w/ APShaveCo 24mm Tuxedo synthetic knot Lather Bowl: None Post: rinse, alum, rinse, Stirling Scots Pine splash Last shave: a week or so ago As planned, I started with a fresh blade for the month. Since injector blades are good for about a dozen shaves, I should have been able to use that blade for the entire month without changing it out. So how did the shave go? Well, relatively speaking, the results sucked rocks... The Tuxedo synthetic did a good job of loading from the Stirling soap and then I face lathered with it. Managed to work up a decently slick and usable lather quite quickly. I then did my usual two passes -- WTG everywhere for the first pass and then XTG on the face and sort of diagonally XTG on the neck for the second. I then rinsed off, applied the alum block (silent alum), rinsed the brush and put away the soap ... and then inspected my face... Patches of missed whiskers sticking up everywhere like tall weeds in a mown lawn... Rinsed off the alum, reopened the soap, reloaded the brush and relathered the face. Third pass -- this time ATG everywhere. Rinsed, inspected, still lots of missed whiskers, relathered and did a FOURTH pass XTG everywhere. Rinsed, inspected, STILL missed whiskers here and there. Said "Too bad, that's good enough for today" and used the splash to finish off. My personal analysis: I used a fresh blade that I injected into the razor from the cartridge instead of manually placing it on the plate. It didn't insert smoothly, so I may have rubbed the edge dull in the process of sliding it into the razor. I have assumed that it's a dud blade and have binned it. Next shave, I will start with a new blade that I will place manually to avoid any further errors. Hope everyone has a good week!

Fine shave today(Mon). Not the way I like it to be, as I could have done better with both sideburn areas down at the jawline, but everywhere else was a success. I don't think I'll get another "Old Chap Art" soap, but it's nice to have for now. No cuts, Knicks, Polka-Dots-the mark of a decent shave. Finished with the Bill Neumann A.S.(Signature 1907). That's probably it for my Bill Neumann's until next fall, although I may purchase a shave cream of theirs before then. As for this shave-Very Outstanding.
