It depends on the RO membrane type.

TFC membrane reduces the solids by around 95 to 98 percent.
This can be very close to distilled water.
Chlorine will damage this type of membrane.
So a good working carbon filter before this is a must.

CTA membrane only reduces it around 85 to 90 percent.
No problem with chlorine with this type of membrane.
So no carbon filter required before this unit, but one is normall, but not, always after it.
It doesn't remove as much solids, but some Consider it better for drinking.

Then you have the deionizer type filters.
They use resin beads that exchange molecules of non hardness with molecules of hardness.

The house water softners exchange salt.

Other types of ion exchange use cation (cat-ion) and anion (an-ion) using an acid or base exchange to soften water.
These types make very pure water that's not for human consumption.

All types of ro or ion exchange units reduces hardness and can be beneficial if you are plagued with hard water.

This morning's shave(Tues)was pretty good. Nice work on the cheeks&sideburns. North Porcupine Alley could have bettrt.....will be tomorrow. Elsewhere was well done. Barbasol is a class cream/foam. One pass. The Gables Original is a nice aftershave-not unlike Skin Bracer(course it came out the year after Skin Bracer). Mosy Outstanding. Time for me to crank up for (BILL)NEUMANN NOVEMBER.
