Today's shave was a 10/10 using dial 6 for my shave today without needing to go back and redo parts due to going up 1 dial number higher. Today was shave 7 on the bottom, 25 in total with the Personna 100 pack made in USA I bought in late 2017. I used as always, my H 2 or 1962 Gillette Adjustable slim handle shaver without the case. I shaved after the shower so none of home-made shaving lotion/soap combo from the hotel squeeze lotion bottle for shaving today, but I did keep the blade wet as needed. The blade was still on day 5 smoother because this bottom side got stropped more due to not having the blade all the way into the Twin Stropper during that stropping with the first 10--12 turns of the handle where the blade only spun about every 3 shaves in this period before I took the blade out and put it in all the way. I think if I use my King C Gillette blades that are made in China, I will strop the blade before using the blades with the Twin Stropper device to remove that micro burr left on by the manufacturing process.
My info is based on the Web and the slightly unreliable book King C Gillette, The Man and his Wonderful Shaving Device by Russel Addams, the book that spends the last 1/3 of the final chapter on the Atra single blade disaster, that was so bad Gillette made a twin blade system for the exact same shaver handles 6 years after the introduction of the shaver, working on a new design right away after a year of complaints. It was so bad because Personna and Dorco had made the Gillette Twin Trac II blades/shavers in Persona case at the time as soon as Gillette stopped making those Twin Trac II blades for all but the military still demanding or using up the huge number of the Twin Trac II until the mid 1980's so Gillette had to make a new twin blade system to compete with its own product being made as an aftermarket product. Apparently in the last few wars the USA military had some people use near the end of these wars a double edge shaver with Gillette blades they give them similar to the others who used Gillette Fusion or Mach III depending on the era.
cheers,Paul.all the info i have gathered i have learned here, and from forum members, fellow enthusiasts and obsessionists of the wetshaving world.i am very fortunate to be a caretaker of these fine shaving instruments and love sharing the info to anyone who owns them and/or is interested.most of the original owners of these timewarps would never have had examples of each to chose from all at the same time..except those who watched the progression of them over a 100 year timeframe..,most just shaved with them (or didn't)..
-Monday- new SC ever-ready pacific shaving co. good morning gents continuing with OCtober quick work shave awesome have a fine day everyone
Awesome shave Barry. Fine soaps make great slick and cushiony lathers. My only complaint is that the scents are too light for my nose.
Thanks, I was doing my best and knew I had to go back to get the rest yesterday on dial 5, so I bumped the shaver up from 5 to 6 on the dial before shaving to see if the blade was ready for the next up gap so the blade could be a bit more aggressive, the blade was ready. Since moving to the Gillette Adjustable 1960's era and getting used to the adjustment part, the blade cutting has been much less than my old Micro Touch One/Weishi short handle nickel plaited brass model. My old Micro Touch One seems to need a more aggressive angle where I can mess up with the Micro Touch One when using this more aggressive angle going too far and then less aggressive than what the shaver can do when the blade is very new after the initial coating has come off the blade or if the blade has no coating like the Chinese King C Gillette, from there until the blade dulls in a bit to be perfect for a long period of shaving.
Thanks again Joe. I understand your complaint with Fine soaps. However, they make up for slickness, cushion & post shave feel much like a lot of other shaving soaps.
