I know that as I got a Micro Touch One pre Rick Harris Endorsement/Wishi nickel plaited brass short handle to work for a long while as my only shaver until the shaver started locking up/almost locking up. These Wishi nickel plaited brass short handle are not expensive shavers but on the cheaper side of shavers, only the Micro Touch was made more expensive due to adding in a crappy razor stand that barely holds a shaver on the stand due to a poor weight/design on the base and having the 20 Dorco blades repackaged with a Micro Touch logo overtop the Dorco Case. I used the Micro Touch One fine for years no problm until the day it fully locked up where only throwing the shaver on the ground worked as using pliers or a mild tap with a mallet on the side did not work. I was so pissed at the Micro Touch One for locking up in March 2025 and not opening up that I threw it kind of hard on the ground to open it up so I could keep using the shaver. As soon as I could after work I was looking harder for a shaver in the butterfly adjustable style finding flaws with the Viking Emperor series or problems with most brands other than the still climbing in price Rockwell T2 to now almost $160 on Amazon, I went for an older shaver from Gillette finding the Adjustable 1960 era cheaper than even the long produced Super Shaver for some reason despite the shaver being made way longer in production. I then went looking for a spare due to being no longer made but a spare that had the case, willing to spend up to $40--$42 total but got one for $36.77 the model I have that sat around for a bit before a price reduction as the date can't be told on the shaver
Today's shave was a 9.5/10 as I had to use dial 2 and this was almost not enough. Today was shave 2 on top/total for the FEIYU blade. Man is this blade feel like it has been used a bit then cleaned very well, almost as if FEIYU sold me used blades. With the FEIYU blades I probably will be lucky to get double digits on each side. I may have strop the blade to get more use out of the FEIYU if the blade dulls in very quickly like in the next shave, I am at dial 3 I will strop the blade but if the blade holds at 2 then I know the blade is fine. The guess as to why I had to use dial 2 on the first shave, is based on the fact that very few modern Chinese brand shavers are made to a Gillette Adjustable dial 1 mild level, even with Chinese model adjustable most are 1--8 dial where the 1 is probably 2, bumping everything up on the dial by 1, so I think at least one of the Chinese brands might make a blade specifically for the Chinese brands of shavers. I used, as always, my H 2 or 1962 Gillette Adjustable slim handle shaver without the case. I shaved after the shower where I did keep the blade wet as needed. I did like most days a partial clean in middle of shave to keep going before the final clean at the end.
My dad's Aristocrat was done more how a brass instrument is done because his was just the lacquer over the brass shaver or was because his has tarnished like brass when the lacquer came off and is a slight red color like how better brass musical instruments are made as cheap models tend to be the aluminum bronze, technically a type of brass. This makes me think the shaver is one of the early or late models from the 1946--1948 era when the gold was not put on under the lacquer.
Classy shave today(course that's why I set up "Throwback" Thursday in the first place.) The Barbasol came out nice and cloudy,. I love that from a canned cream. Clean, clear shave all around. No damage. One pass. Happy to come back to Fine Latigo A.S! I don't need to re-order for a while, but I may just do it, even though the price has increased(as I mentioned the other day). It's worth the purchase, I'll say that right now(oh, I just DID say that). As Outstanding As It Gets.
there was gold ,but very thin and over brass, later razors were gold over nickel.red brass is good quality, better than yellow ,used for plumming fixtures in the older days.
Thanks I know very little about the FEIYU blades so...I am hoping my recent change in getting used to the Gillette shavers helps me with the unknown blade brand.
For The Friday Fact, I just repeated my Throwback Thursday shave. The result was a repeat, too . Big cloud of the Barbasol came squirting out. Most reminiscent of the Rise Superfoams I ordered from RiseIntl. Why doesn't that organization sell any more Rise boxes? Big shux, that. It's kinda like the Stoylin website not having any Stoylins. Crazy, I know. Anyway, back to the shave. Clean&clear all over the map. No damage. I guess the more cream you get, the better the shave. In that case, Tools trump Technique. Great finish once again from Fine Latigo A.S. That Italian agent who Doc Fine found discovered a way to neutralize the scent of leather with Latigo. Not as strong as American Leather you'd find in the south and southwest(like at a rodeo event). It's nice(course American leather is nice, too, in its own way). As Outstanding As It Gets for this shave.
Today's shave was a 9.5/10 as I had to use dial 3 and this was right on getting a nearly BBS. Today was shave 3 on top/total for the FEIYU blade. The FEIYU I am finding out with sample of 1 is a well-made blade almost like the modern no label Personna 100 made in USA pack in the thinner thickness with similar quality to the Personna is just very mild and yesterday after the first shave I could have used dial 3 for the shave. the benefits of using an adjustable shaver are, I can use many different types of blades from mild to more aggressive up to a point. I used, as always, my H 2 or 1962 Gillette Adjustable slim handle shaver without the case. I shaved during the shower with soap on my face where the shower kept the blade wet as needed. I did like most days since late 2017 a partial clean in middle of shave to keep going before the final clean at the end.
October 24 SOTM Good evening. Straight Razor Shave #615 F. W. Engel Burberry Synthetic Brush Angora Soaps Midnight Lavender SS and AS Stirling Alum Block Lucky Witch Hazel Beard Growth: 2.5 Days It's another late post for this morning's shave. Decided to do a straight razor shave I just did 2 passes for a nice, close and comfortable shave. Did not lose any blood during my grooming session. I went with Angora Soaps Midnight Lavender. It gave me a nice, slick thin lather and this scent is just awesome. I now have the beginnings of a donut hole so I will be using it sparingly because it is unobtainium. Had very little alum feedback. Splashed on the Lucky Witch Hazel and a generous portion of the matching aftershave to end this fine shave. Take care.
