There's probably relatively little historical and anecdotal info of the kind we'd like because shaving was long considered simply a less than pleasant but necessary task, seen similarly to how toilet paper and women's sanitary products are viewed today (with a slight sense of ugh). Apart from ad copy, it wasn't glamorous in the slightest, not particularly interesting for extended conversation and obviously lacked the sense of classic tradition we impart to it. There just wasn't much to say about it. Just a guess.
