For those who shave first - why apply aftershave before the shower? Why not wait until finished showering?
Problem is there is no proper order. I shower before I shave. Tried it the other way and found it made for a very uncomfortable shave. But just because I do it that way doesn't make it right, or proper. It's your shave. Enjoy it your way. So I didn't vote
If I don't hydrate my whiskers first I get the most uncomfortable shave ever. And hot towels don't do the job well enough for me. I don't know how you cold water guys do it
Really depends on how the day is going for me. 9 times out of 10 I will shower then shave or if I am on a time crunch I will quickly shave and then shower and out the door. I prefer to shave after a shower though.
I think Queen of Blades hit the nail on the head with this one. Like so many other aspects of wet shaving, this is really a matter of personal preference; therefore, there's no "correct" answer to this question. As for me, my personal preference is to shower then shave. I like a nice hot shower before I shave. I could be wrong, but I think the warm water helps open my pores, hydrates my skin, and softens my facial hair. And this, I believe, makes my shaving experience a lot easier to get through. Maybe it's a placebo effect, but I've noticed that when I shave without showering first, the shave is quite unpleasant. It feels like the razor is pulling/tugging on my facial hair, and I my skin feels more irritated than it does if I don't shower first.
I like to shave before a shower because I feel I get better shaves when my skin is taut and some people prefer their skin softer. I think whether the benefits are real or perceived doesn't really matter if it feels right to you. It's your shave.
Sometimes I shave without having a shower immediately before or after. Luckily my beard growth means I can get away with just a quick hot-water face wash prior to shaving and still have an easy shave. If I am doing both however, I always shower first, shave second.
I answered shower then shave because that's what I do. Doesn't make it proper though. Funnily, when I shaved with a cart I did the opposite. Go figure.
I usually shave before I shower. If needed, I'll apply some alum and rinse it off in the shower, and then put on AS afterwards. I don't do it because it makes the shave any better, I just want to make sure I wash off all the soap/cream
I used to shave first, then shower. Then I switched; I may switch back, 'cuz my mirror gets all foggy when I shower.
If you have a hair dryer or a heat gun, then spending 30-40 seconds using one of these will clear your mirror, and it doesn't leave any streaks or smudges like it does if you use a towel to wipe it clean. Plus, the residual heat on the mirror prevents it from fogging up again (until your next shower).
Don't have a hair dryer, but I use the vent fan to try & keep the mirror clear. Works sometimes, if I don't run the water too hot. In cold weather, I bring my little heater into the bathroom with me, which helps. Also keeps the bathroom warm, 'cuz my landlady sets the thermostat to 65 degrees.
Neither! I take a bath at night while sipping a glass of bourbon. Its called having a B&B - bourbon and bath. And yes I use the wife's bubble bath - and I'm man enough to admit it. I shave in the morning after hydrating my face with a hot wet towel.
I shower at night, shave in the morning. Can't put myself to bed with a day's worth of grunge on me. Shaving in the morning just starts the day off right
"Shower, then shave" becomes the Secretariat of that poll. (Google 1973 Belmont Stakes to see what I'm talkinabout).
