I can't remember what kind of razor I had years ago. I do remember that it was very inexpensive and purchased at my local store. Came in a plastic blister pack. It was a TTO, looked somewhat like my wieshi but the handle was longer I believe. My Weishi razor arrived today. It did come with Dorco ST300's. Oh well, its all I have right now so I'll give em a try since theres no way I'm going to wait any longer to try it out. I am surprised actually at what seems to be a decent quality razor for the next to nothing price I paid for it. I was expecting cheapo but it really seems quite nice actually. The handle is much shorter than I expected but it has a good balanced feel to it. It feels nice in my hands and looks decent. Question: How hard should I torque down the TTO? I'm afraid to over tighten.
Don't use force. Just tighten it until it stops turning. Maybe give a gentle twist to make sure it's in place but nothing more. I used to worry about over tightening when I used TTOs. And if you're in the market for a good quality two piece razor, there's a Merkur HD in the classifieds for $22, which is a good price.
My technique of using a TTO is maybe a bit odd, but I close it about 85 percent of the way, turn it upside down and finish tightening it up to the point where the doors just close but before the live blade inside has any bend to it. To test it I touch the sides of the blade and if it jiggles any maybe another quarter turn if that and I'm done. But I don't let the blade get bent. Just enough pressure so as it does not move.
That just sounds scary to me . I'm sure to tighten my TTOs all the way. If I can shake it and feel anything giggle it's needs to be tightened more. That said, when it quits moving it's tight.
:rofl I did mean that it needed to be tightened to the point where the blade doesn't move....but I like your version better...if its still gigglin' I'm not shaving with it
