Thanks Clint! Honestly, I had a bad feeling that I might've wasted $38.00 on a piece of junk. I'm not a aficionado of vintage razor restoration, but I think I might just be catching the bug :)

Anyone have experience taking one of these apart for restoration? I would love to be able to repaint the collar that should be black as well as the number seven that wore off today.

It is pretty easy to clean them up. I have done 3 this month. So far they look good. But most of all they are nice shavers.
Only i get to look at them unless i catch the family off guard. then they are forced to hear all about that particular razor. Then look at the before and after pictures. that really kills them.

I use my G3 Fat Boy and my G3 Slim. They are great razors, and that's where my enjoyment for them comes in. I hope you decide to give yours a spin!

Fat Boys sell all day long on eBay for $50 or more. In fact, you're fortunate to get one for $50. Prices can get crazy. You got a fine deal!

Thanks Charlie. I'm really leary of taking it apart. I'll have to study up to do it right.

Haha! I can relate to that. My Dad and I have similar tastes and we always like to see things shine. So at dinner today I talked his ear off about it :)

Heat it with a small torch and bend it back into place with a pair of needle nose pliers.

Heating it will destroy the plating, so if it doesn't affect the shave, I'd just leave it be until the day you send it in for replating.

Very educational video there. Basically just whack it with a hammer and it all comes apart :D

So not advisable to do it without heat then? I'd rather have a bent bar on an old razor than none.

Brass gets brittle with age. Heating it, anneals the brass, making it not brittle. It takes a lot of heat though.

You could try bending it without heat, but you run a large risk of snapping something...call it a 25-50% chance. The smaller the part, the higher the risk. If it was bent teeth on a old type, you would break them without heat.

Might send it off to Razor Emporium. They can clean, polish, repaint the numbers, and make sure it is work properly for a small fee. I've been thinking about sending E1 Fat Boy in myself.

Thanks Herk! I've been enjoying using it this week. Just goes to show you not to write off some of the less appealing finds at places, I guess. It also speaks well as to the durability of the Gillette razors.
