I believe, yours is not a Gillette base plate. I´ve this set:

So, basically, the OP's razor is a frankenrazor with a Gillette case and handle, but an unknown baseplate and cap.

It was a soldier's set, and he replaced the razor parts with the ones taken from the bodies of his enemies after they shot up his existing one.

The cap looks Gillette, but the base plate isn't. Gillette also had different style caps as my Army set in metal case has the exact same style as on the pic. While my Army set in bakelite set has a slightly different one.

I might be able to write the story, but my drawing skills aren't up to the task of a graphic novel, unless you want it to be written like XKCD.

I'd have to do some research on my grandfather, however. He was in demolitions in the army in WW-II. His job? Blow up machine gun nests. One.. at.. a.. time. Can way say lowest survival rate of almost any MOS?

Seriously messed up, mentally, when he came home. He'd been declared Missing, assumed KIA. My grandmother got the 'regret to inform you' letter and everything. Then he showed up once he'd been released from the various hospitals.

Hello again everyone. I was doing a little research on Techs in general, and I think I have identified what Tech style razor that baseplate came from. A Simplex 7. Check it out.

Also around during WWII. And @John Ruschmeyer might be right, it could also be a matching cap to the base plate.
