Announcing Travel Box 2012

lol, great minds think think alike! That is exactly what I would have taken from the box. Ah well, at least there are some more skin food samples in there...

Just got done sorting through all the goodies. I was surprised to see so many unusual razors. So, while we wait for
a: photos to finish uploading to photobucket (I'll post them tomorrow) POSTED!
b: my camera to finish recharging it's batteries (so I can take a pic of the stuff I'm taking and a pic of the bulging travel box). :CHARGED!

As you know, I got to meet Micah, AKA Hirstute, We played a couple rounds of pool and chatted about shaving and life, he got to ogle my gear and graciously refrained from picking through the stuff I'm sending on (though he did get to look through it). He promised to post pictures of his new shaving rack and I'm going to hold him to it!

I'll be honest, I looted the travel box (to make room for what I'm putting in). I will be mailing the box out on Tuesday, that will give the brushes time to dry before I ship them on. One of the brushes is a re-brush candidate, so I left it alone. The other brushes got the PLANofMAN patented piggy conservation treatment. They were dried out and the bristles were starting to break and shed. The next person on the list will get shave ready brushes, I guarantee it, or your money back! I know, they're free (to a good home).

I was amazed at the staggering variety of soaps, creams and samples in the box. This is definitely something I want to do again next year (though I think most of my contribution next year will be new containers and labels for all the plastic bagged soaps and stuff).

Edit: Sorry for the refletoporn in the shave dish, yes I'm wearing jeans and no, I'm not that fat. Distorted image and all that- and the items in the last picture are not going in the travel box, that's my current rotation in my shave den on a re-purposed spice rack. Edit #2: Careful viewers will notice that one thing off the spice rack did finally end up in the Travel Box.

 

Here's another update to my post above. When I checked the brushes this morning my countertop looked like a tulip field and smelled like a pig sty. Unused and new bristle brushes smell. The smell will go away with use. They bloomed nicely, two of them in particular, and will make great brushes for you guys. They were pretty dry, and I could have sent the box today, but just to be on the safe side I will continue to stick to my plan to mail the box tomorrow, to give them extra time to dry out completely. I have the next person's name and address so we are all set. I will post in this thread pictures of what I am taking from the box and what the box looks like just before I seal it up. Cheers!

 

Here's what I took:

Bea shave stick, Figaro shave cream, Godrej shave cream, and The Shave Den Orange scented collection (shave cream, AS Milk, and AS) The two skin foods, the Gillette brush (for the full story behind it looking healthy again, read below) Shaving mirror, Afta After Shave, an Ever Ready razor and a Gem Micromatic, plus a pack each of Merkurs and Voskhod blades.

Here's the blooming brushes. Don't worry, these are going back in the box. If you are noticing a handle without a brush there that used to have a brush- it fell out. resourceful guy that I am, I epoxied it into a brush that needed re-knotting and kept that one. The handle, I send outward on it's journey.

The last picture is a special last minute addition I am making to the box. I decided that I really like Trumper's creams better than their soaps, and it would be a sin to keep it. (plus it salves my guilty conscience after taking so much stuff)

 

This is what the next person who opens the box will see. Shipping out tomorrow. I had to keep the little red Russian brush that was made in China. I swear the box wouldn't close with it in there.... Don't panic, I took it out before the pictures were taken.
