Once upon a time there was an archery contest. The first archer, wearing a long cape covering his face, lines up in position...He takes a deep breath and fires an arrow which finds the center of the target. Then he takes of his cape and screams: I AM...... ROBIN HOOD!!! The crowd cheers! The second archer with a cape lines up in position. He fires his arrow which hits the center and cuts robin hood's arrow into two!!! He takes off his cape and screams: I AM...... WILLIAM TELL!!!!!! The crowd cheers!! finally, a third man in cape lines up in position... He fires his arrow but it goes all wrong!!! It flies past the crowd and kills the king!!! Then the man takes off his cape and screams: I AM...... SORRY!!!
It's very uncommon for two archers to have the same score. Everyone knows that bow ties went out of style years ago.
Tomorrow I'll ask my son if I can take a pic of him with a bow tie (he'll be back home late tonight). He looks real classy to me when he wears it!
Thanks. It's a beginner's bow, that I like quite a bit. I can adjust the draw weight a lot, on this one. Thus far, I have progressed from a draw weight of 25# to 45#. My eventual goal is 55#.
I finally made it to the shooting range yesterday. Mostly chatted but shot a few arrows as well (3 or 4 rounds of three arrows). Hit a 9 and a 10 amongst them. Not bad after a 4 months break. It was nice. Hope I'll have enough energy next week as well.
Goood for you, Mike! Archery always relaxes me and I hope it has a similar effect on you. BTW, I got the results of this Sunday's tournament. I am the champ in my division (50+ Female Compound) with a score of 422/600. Of course, it helps to be the only entrant in my category. This actually happens to me a lot. So the real victories for me are A) not being the lowest-scoring shooter at the event and B)going through the whole competition without a single missed shot. This is a first for me, in competition.
Thanks! That would be a great score for me as well. The 422/600 bit that is. Being the first female 50+ compound is not exactly what happens a lot to me. My greatest aims in a tournament are: A) get a decent score and B) have a great time! we may have a regional tournament coming in April, so I may be tempted to compete. If only so there are enough contestants to make it worth while for the orgsanisation. Too bad there is less and less interest by the other archers in the region. It's just fun!
It is fun and friendly. I find that archers at all skill levels are nice and encouraging to one another. The experts will cheer on the accomplishments of beginners and vice-versa. You should certainly compete to do your best and also to increase the odds that there will be a sufficient number of competitors. Given the general lack of competition in my category, I find that my goal is to compete against myself (i.e. beat my previous best.)
I'd say so. Some of the folks at our club, who compete at larger events tell me that this is just about universal. I have heard stories of the best archers asking to pause the event, so they could help beginners with equipment problems.
Went to the range again yesterday. Shot about 14 series of 3 arrows at 18 meters with an average of 7 points a shot. That was still more than enough to get me exhausted. But it was fun!
