The cask-strength version? That's one helluva great dram! (The normal version, too, but the cask strength one is a wee bit better) :happy088
I just picked up a bottle of Macallan 12 for the roomie's birthday. He hasn't opened it yet, and admittedly I'm not a big scotch drinker, but I just can't wait until he does.
The roomie finally cracked the Macallan. Excellent stuff. I might have to change my stance on not being a big scotch person. I figured after my fine Speyside experience, I had to try an Islay. So I am now a FoL (friend of Laphroaig)
Ah, the Macallan. Great stuff! This just came in: - Kilkerran WIP - GM Pittyvaich 1993 - GM Macduff 1989 - 12yo Bruichladdich single cask for potstill.org by Murray McDavid
It has been awhile since I have had some scotch. My regular is Glen Garioch or Glenlivet. My ex bought me a bottle of Glenlivet 18 year old for my birthday..that was real nice.
In keeping with my recent Islay fascination, I had a dram o' the Ardbeg Uigeadail tonight. Wow... that's some powerful stuff.
I love RYE, not scotch per see, but ... I like Alberta Spring (10y), Wiser's deluxe and I tried an Aberlour 10 recently. Not a bad one, but I feel the Wiser's deluxe is a better choice for a cheaper price. I an looking forward to a Glendronnach over the new year.
Ah, what a Christmas. I received no less than 3 bottles of scotch. I got a bottle of Aberlour 10 year, which was the first scotch I started off with several years ago (until I discovered that I liked Glenlivet 12 year a bit more for a similar price). My new girlfriend got me the Glenlivet Master Distillers Tasting Set. It contained a bottle of Glenlivet 15 year French Oak Reserve and a bottle of Nadurra 16 year. Nadurra has been one of my favorites since I discovered cask strength scotches. (I also rather enjoy Aberlour's A'bunadh.) I opened the French Oak Reserve, and I have to say, it's quite nice.
Have you had the Cask Strength yet? I'm curious... but I've been chasing a bourbon fascination lately.
I love Laphroaig 10 but have never heard of "Cask Strength". How old and how much. Will I have to mortgage the old homestead?????
Another vote for 16 yr Lagavulin. I've remember when it was $40/bottle-now it's almost $100. Liquid smoke-good for the soul. A friend let me taste is 26 year Dalmore. I tasted it next to the Lavagulin and actually like the Lagavulin more. Shaving advice-probably wise to shave before drinking the scotch.
$55-60ish, 10 yr old. Normally I wouldn't go for splashing water in perfectly good malt, but apparently it's quite appropriate... almost necessary for the cask strength.
Oh yes, the Lagavulin. I love it, but its price has gone nothing but up. My brother bought one recently and I'm lookig forward to comparing the "new" 16yo against my 5yo bottle of the 16yo. Oh and then there's a few new bottles (unopened ones are marked with a *) that found its way into my home lately... Old Pulteney 12yo Bruichladdich PC8* Ardbeg Corryvreckan* Kilchoman Autumn Release*
I look forward to hearing about the "new" ones as I've never heard of them. I don't think there will be a difference between the two 16 y/o scotches. My understanding is that the aging takes place while it's in the barrel. Once it's bottled, unlike wine, it doesn't change over time. I wouldn't bet my house on this so if anybody else out there knows different please correct me.
