I'm running Windows 7 Home premium and it hasn't had any issues so far, however with the "FREE" Windows 10 update right around the corner I was wondering if it would be a good idea to upgrade or just do what I've been doing and use the exisiting os until I get a new computer? I have thought of switch ing to Linux, but I'm not really into programming. So what are your thoughts everybody?
I am going to try the Windows 10. I have Win 7 now. I came to it reluctantly, but I have it set up as much like XP as possible. There are some actual improvements over XP. I really do not like Win 8. It is on my wife's laptop, and it is frustrating whenever I have to work on it. And don't get me started on Windows 9. It is a real non starter. However, 10 sounds like it may be a winner. Evidently, they have finally ditched IE. I did that years ago. I will probably still continue on with Chrome though. It won't be long now.
It seems like every other Win version is good... XP was good, Vista sucked, 7 was good, 8 was less so. I'm hoping the trend continues so that 10 will be great.
When Windows became a thing I still went to DOS for a long time to do things like rename, move, copy files etc as it was easier and quicker than doing it in Windows
My old laptop has 7. Since I've gotten this iPad, I've rarely used the laptop. I saw a TV spot for Win10 and thought, "What happened to nine?" I think we run 7 at work and will do so until the current IT regime is overthrown.
Same system as you; my laptop is aging so I figure "why not" but when I heard the menu won't resemble Windows 8 (which my dad has and I found utterly baffling), I reserved my download. If six of us disappear from TSD around the first of the month, we'll know why.
If you regularly use dual monitors, then 8.1 was actually a small step up from 7. 10 is supposed to feel more like 7 than 8.1 does, and it keeps the few good things from 8.1 as well. If you aren't tech savvy, then just wait a few months before making the switch.
Agree. The next time I want to spend money on design-over-power, a ridiculously locked down OS, non-modular/upgrade-friendly, a customer support that treats you as you have the mental capabilities of a ten year old and from a company that has its origins in straight out stealing IP and still file the most ridiculous patent infringement cases - I will buy an Apple computer again. Until then I'll stay away. Gotta love their latest patent - to tailor ads to you based on your credit limit/bank balance...
I am upgrading two computers one from 7 and one from 8.1. I will not be upgrading my htpc because Microsoft has officially killed their best product windows media center. I use it basically as my DVR and hub for all things media. That one machine will stay with 8.1 until I can put together a viable alternative.
Thanks for the responses guys ( except for HolyRollah ). Since Apple's not an option as far as I'm concerned, I'll probably upgrade and if it doesn't work out I may have to learn Linux.
Linux is fine if you just do basic stuff. The minute you try to do any special networking or media editing, it becomes very difficult to find simple solutions.
I've used 10 and it's nice. Not sure about the start menu, I'm a big fan of the 8.1 menu for desktop use, in 10 it feels cluttered. I think 10 will be great, and some of the future plans for the Windows suite sound very impressive.
