Have anyone of you ever seen the razor enforced by "Pawn Stars"guy Rick? I saw it while on a holiday at my sister's place. Ir looked really cheap, and I'll update the post when I find the pics. I just want to know if any of you folks have seen this before, our even I'd you've bought it. Thanks
If you go to Walmart you can pick up the blades to suit at a very (un)reasonable price. From what I understand it is a rebranded Weishi
It's called the Micro Touch. In the first thread below Mantic talks about his experience with it. http://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/microtouch-one.35211/ http://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/new-de-razor-tv-commercial.35348/
It's a Weishi 9306 razor. I've got a Weishi, it's a good, inexpensive TTO. You can find them for around $10 on Ebay and they have about a half dozen different finishes. Very mild and smooth shave.
I bought this razor and I don't think it's a bad razor for $20.00. I have used few times and I like it. Course I'm fairly new to a DE razor shaving. Course I don't have whole a lot money to spend on a really good razor.
It's actually the razor that got me into DE shaving. It is pretty mild, and I've since moved to to a vintage Gillette, but it's not bad.
Mine is pretty solid. It's not as solid as my SS or ball end, but I think it's put together better than my Krona.
I believe the Weishi 9306 is a brass razor, and the design is from the Gillette Super Speed patent. Read the reviews, there's nothing cheap feeling about this razor. Although admittedly, the 9306 comes in so many different finishes that there are some that look less 'inspiring' than the others. The biggest complaint this razor gets is that it's too mild.
I've heard the Micro Touch was just a re-branded Weishi 9306. The Weishi 9306 was my first DE razor and it is a good, mild razor. I have since moved on to a Gillette Tech, and have a couple other vintage Gillette's I still need to try so the Weishi won't be getting used any time soon.
EDIT: I never meant to sound like a snob. See, I'm actually new to safety razor shaving and nothing feels like that Gillette. Sorry for any confusion
I have a Gillette. Was lucky enough to find one laying around the house that once belonged to my FIL. But I'd buy a cheaper DE if I didn't have one to shave with. In fact, I'm probably going to buy one of the Maggard razors as a backup. As long as the doors close up properly(if TTO), the blade is held securely and straight, and there aren't any jagged edges on the thing, you can get a decent shave for very little outlay. Would I make a cheapo my only razor? Nope. There are too many reasonably priced used or new that are build with quality to do that. But for someone just trying to start out, a cheapy will work well for a long time. MHO.
As has been established it a Chinese made razor called the Weishi, an inexpensive clone of a Gillette TTO safety razor..Since razors are to a degree a subjective "YMMV" kind of thing, until you actually use one you can only go by reviews..I.M.O. the Weishi is a good way to get into "traditional" shaving, using a TTO razor, without spending "ALOT" of money...There are also useable, inexpensive Chinese 3 piece razors, on ebay, you can buy inorder to try out a 3 piece type razor on the cheap.... While I.M.O. neither has the same quality of material or craftmanship of say a vintage Gillette,Weber, Edwin Jagger89,Merkur etc., I've never heard of one falling apart midshave yet either...Feather also make an affordable TTO called the "Popular"... Again I.M.O. I think the Chinese razors are worth what you pay for them as starter razors as they allow you to try out "traditional" shaving cheaply... However, although it could happen, don't plan on passing them on to your children or grandchildren.... Another positive I.M.O. is if these razors get you into "traditional" shaving, most of the other razors out there you can buy as upgrades, will be definate improvements in material and craftsmanship, if not shave quality "YMMV", for not much more money..
