I still have never tried it, or the 300. I have heard, though, that the 301 was a definite improvement on the 300. It is an excellent price too, normally, so if it works, hey, nothing wrong with that! I do have it down to try at some point. Maybe MAYhem? We'll see.
April 11, 2016 A month with my Schick Type F Hot Shower Razor: Schick F Blade: NOS Schick Plus Platinum (4) Soap: Proraso Green Brush: Rubberset 400-4 TSD Witch Hazel AS: Proraso Green Two-pass shave - XTG, ATG My 4th great shave with this razor/blade combo. Proraso is consistently refreshing. Cheers! RT
Soap Focus I decided to try the Bunny without a comb today. It was probably not the best idea to do that on Menthol Monday with a blade on day six. My neck has just a little irritation SOTD Proraso Pre-shave Balm TSD 2X Iced Florida Water soap Rubberset 400 Bunny V3 w/ no comb Chick blade (6) Alum Osage Rub Florida Water AS Have a great week!
Day 11 of 120 Days. Ontario Cutlery Co. 5/8ths Omega 81052 Stirling Glacial Eskimo Tuxedo Fine Snakebite Aftershave A lot better shave today then yesterday. BBS all over. Today also marks a week since I have used a DE. :rah::rah:
Late to the April focus but I am all in. I will be using my new to me GEM Micromatic Clog Pruf razor. I've used it 4 times already and after a pair of subpar shaves with the Gillette injector razor I thought I ought to give this old tool a good try. I likely will stick with the Plissoft brush which has been my most used brush since mid February. I'll use soaps as the mood hits me and I'll try to master this very smooth razor.
Arko April in Russia! April 11 Razor - 1959 Gillette Super Speed Blade - (2) Brush - Vie-Long 12601 The Pony Soap - Arko Post - Cold water rinse, Alum, The Veg It's Opening day at Busch Stadium today!! Hopefully the Cards don't do their usual opening day routine and not show up. I know, stupid Cards fans who complain about a team that does nothing but go to the playoffs and win World Series. On to the shave. Day two of the Swedish Supersteel. The Pony is working nicely with the Arko. I definitely figured out how to face lather with it. It's a bit of a different motion but it produces great lather. First pass and I'm hoping for a smoother one than yesterday. Hope is a wonderful thing. Unfortunately, it can lead to disappointment. Yeah, still not as smooth as its litter mates. But, way ahead of many other blades. If I was coming from a bad blade to this one I wouldn't even notice. Second pass XTG and if anything it may be just a touch rougher than yesterday. And, as I worked to finish the second pass hoping for a BBS in two I also started to notice that funny feeling. I finished the XTG with a very nice DFS and called a halt. Grabbed the alum and......yeah, it's hotter than I would have liked at this point. Definitely raising some irritation. Not horrible, again, but it's more than yesterday. Well, I'm going to make a call and end the Swedish today. No reason to think it's going to improve on a third shave, and since I've used it before I know it's still heads and shoulders above many. I'll take a break for the next couple of days to do something different, then be back with the Rapira Super Stainless "Chrome". In the meantime, the boys in the band finally left Moscow headed west. Said something about a lot of country to cross before they could check in again. I suggested flying instead. After all, Aeroflot, the Soviet National airline is still around. I don't think they liked the idea since Ivan sent me a picture and a suggestion with what I could do with that idea. I won't repeat that here, even in Russian!
This morning I was running behind because I insisted on eating before work. That's not something I normally do since I always cook extra and usually nibble all the way through the work day on the left over. CJB Feather Pro(3) Semogue 1438 Arko stick Humphreys' Lilac Witch Hazel I face lathered the Arko stick. I never have as good a result with a stick paired with the softer bristles of my badger or synthetic so I pulled out my first natural bristle brush the 1438. The paint on the wood handle is cracking and looks like it may fall off soon but the sticker still looks great. Its started shedding hairs 1 or 2 every have too. I was warned when I was looking at getting it that the wood ones fail faster then the acrylic handled ones. I'll replace it sometime with a larger acrylic handled one sooner rather then later. First and only pass with the CJB was N/S with some slide and I ended with a really decent DFS. I made sure to keep the blade angle shallow and keep the skin stretched. I did shorter strokes so I could keep a better stretch where the blade was shaving. No blood, no redness, happy me. I finished with the Humphreys' because I didn't know how the Veg would like the kitchen grease I was going to be covered in a few hours after I started work. Now I'm kicking back a few minutes before I check my blade stash for terrible bad blades to break in half and try in my shavette next month. I'll be stocking up my medical kit and making sure I have some of this for the major cuts. After that its just waiting for the month to change. I spelled it Mayham first. I think I was hungry that day.
Hi all, been following the thread for a couple of months and thought I would chip in. My month's rule: Soap; Edwin Jagger Shaving Soap (Limes and Pomegranate. Blades; Polsilver super iridium, Razor; Muhle (unsure of model), Brush; vonel 661 professional. This morning 3 passes WTG. Coarse beard so working on technique.
I recommend putting the Quick Clot in a bowl big enough to just put your whole face into. Saves time and about a half pint of blood in the process.
Razor: Gillette Tech Black Plastic Handle Razor (X4) 1952 Blade: Dorco ST 301 Platinum SK (2) Brush: WDC-5 WD Boar with Green Soap: Proraso A/S: Proraso Bowl: Michael Stanley PEI It is so good to see things green up in the Spring. Don't care much for this brush with this soft soap. Hard to press into a bowl and keep from having to chase the soap. This razor is not no of Gillette's finest razors in my opinion. The handle is so very light that you could forget you have something in your hand. The head is light also. Good blade though!
Being so close to a major Army base I'll bet you have a Great source for Quick Clot. I wish I had gathered more stuff in my duffle when I left there.
I have 2 Sharp blades, a stainless and a hi Chromium Durablade. Which one did you try? Looks like I have a Blendax, A Baili Super Blue, a Patrix, a Gillette Rubie, and the 2 Sharp blades. I might pick some odd named blades out to fill the month. I'm at 24 days now if I can get 4 days of shave from each one. I may try just 2 and use a fresh blade each shave. Depends on how it starts out I guess. I may throw the Dorco 301 in there. It may be the best blade in the bunch.
Durablade if memory serves. It wasn't a good memory. You have a Blendax, Baili Blue and a Patrix? You've been saving up for this? I thought I was the only person who could find that terrible trio in a blade stash. Jason has lots to choose from at tryablade.com. He doesn't have the Flying Eagle, though, probably because he doesn't want to be associated with it.
Yep. Great sampler but newbies especially should exercise caution at times. What am I saying, lifetime shavers should exercise caution as well.
