You are indeed correct and furthering the cause regarding Russian shaving accoutrements. My Gillette 7 o'clock sharp edge (yellow box) are made by Petersburg Products in St Petersburg under licence from the Gillette company.

I'm at work today, so no photos... :( I've got about 7 shaves under my belt now.:whacky024:

Biggest challenge (besides trying to lean proper technique, lathering, nicking, bleeding, ok - just plain everything...) as I was saying, the biggest challenge is finding time for this! I'm enjoying the "new hobby" of shaving, it's much less a chore than before! But, it adds time to the morning routine, and with 1 bathroom in the house, it's hard to hog the sink for too long. I don't want to feel rushed...So, last shave I tried it the evening before. We'll see what the stubble is like tomorrow AM when I get off work to see if that will work as a routine or not!

Prep - soak brush while showering. Wash face with Neutrogena soap.
    Razor - Edwinn-Jagger DE89bl
Blade - Derby (came with razor)
Brush - Parker Safety Razor Silvertip
    Soap - DR Harris (Arlington)
After - Aftershave (for the life of me, I can picture the tube, but can't name it...). non-alcohol based though

Started off on a bit of a bad note; had trouble lathering again (don't like my brush...sell it? Suck it up and get used to it?). I'll look for a lathering bowl soon - right now I'm using one of my wife's kitchen bowls, with a smooth bottom. Works ok, but not great. I'm sure my technique is to blame for most of the issues! Put on a fresh Derby blade. Picked up a pack of Astra last week, but promptly cut up my face very quickly. Looked like hamburger! I've had some good shaves with the Derby, so I went back to that blade. Unless there is major disagreement on what I should do, I'm planning on ordering a supply of the Derby blades, and doing the month with them.
Did a 2+ pass shave. WTG, XTG, then took brush in left hand to lather remaining spots, and razor in right hand to go ATG to clean them up. Good idea? Bad idea?

Left a bit disappointed in my shave quality - should have just sucked it up and did a 3 pass shave. We'll see. I shaved everyday for a few days, and was getting a bit raw. Went 2 days, and had a great shave. Found an article about shaving every other day, and have been doing that since. Tomorrow morning, the kids will be at school and the wife at work, so I'll take my time for a shave (1 1/2 days between).

Seems like it shouldn't be this hard! But, I guess I have always been a slow learner

My youngest son is a sous chef at a local hot spot in downtown, about 4 months ago he was putting a big bag of sugar on the table in the kitchen at work and slid the bag towards him, not knowing a really really sharp knife was underneath the bag it stabbed him in the pelvis. He had to have stitches and x-rays, was out of work for a week and a half.
These things happen in a busy kitchen, it's so important that you follow your Doctors orders so that you heal properly. Because in 30 years when you're my age you'll pay for.

Oh man does that sound bad. Glad he is ok. And you are so right. Add in the chaotic stress of a busy kitchen and bad things can and do happen. I had a cook get knocked out by a bus boy on accident. Bus boy came in to grab some pans and spun around catching the cook right in the jaw with a cast iron skillet "And down goes Frazier!!!!"...as a special bonus? The bus boy then managed to trip over the cook falling on his face and breaking about 30 plates.

I will follow the Doctors orders but I am going to go crazy being out of work for a bit.

    Two-pass shave - XTG, ATG
My 1st shave with this razor/blade combo. Noticeably sharper blade, yet not as smooth shaving as the Plus Platinum. Dolphin smooth skin in the end though.

    Cheers!

I think I ran into my first bad blade tonight. While I was tired last night I don't know how much of my bad shave was the blade and how much was my lack of sleep. I used ice water again tonight, the best, and built up a fantastic lather. About 5 seconds into the shave the blade felt rough, just like last night. I swapped in a new blade, re-lathered, and started over. This was more like it. 3 passes and I'm DFS+, I missed a small area under my chin but didn't chase the baby. I rinsed off with ice cubes and quickly dried and applied the Thayers, great cooling feeling. I can't wait until my M-Bomb arrives to really being the cold.

I almost broke my rule tonight with the bad blade and swapped in a Ladas or Voskhod but stuck with the GSB. If I'm going to break the rule it will be when my R41 shows up. Face stretching was great, left hand, not so much. It just might not be in the cards but I'm finishing the month. Have a great day folks!

I will be back on the Fatip Grande on Friday, but have faith, it's been Arko and the Veg all the way! If you'd like to read my thoughts on the Bunny prototype, click the above link. Work days are finally slowing down for a week or two, a little more rest is gonna be nice! 74f and sunny oh the prairie today, other than that...All is quiet in Colorado.

    Have a wonderful Wednesday!

That's nuts, show up at a Nuggets game 90 minutes early and you can literally count all the people in a 20000 capacity arena. I hope the GSW pull it off! They are the most fun team in US pro sport right now.

Take your doctor seriously. Infected burns in a hand can be permanently life changing, and not in a good way. I know it's hard to sit in the sidelines, but this is actually a serious and dangerous situation, be good to yourself...take it easy. This is going to be some tough, frustrating healing. I seriously burned my right hand last February, and it took 8 weeks to heal to a reasonable point, and 8 months for all the feeling to come back in my palm (all that's coming back anyway...). Hang in there buddy! This is gonna be a project, but you can use it as a time to develop your left side fine motor skills. That's how I passed the time last year, and it made me better at everything now that I can do most things with either hand, I never could before. This may sound nuts, but I hope you get as much out of your recovery as I got from mine!

Gave the left hand shaving a try tonight and it was like shaving with a noodle. Getting the angle right was a pain in the rear and even gripping the DE felt weird. Will give it another go tomorrow. SAS but nowhere near what I am use too.

I'll be doing exactly as what the DR wishes. SWMBO already told me if I act up/get stubborn/or go against what her and the DR think is best she is going to (insert choice word here) slap me into next week, build a time machine, travel to next week just to slap me back, then come back to slap me again. On the plus side I can now finally get some quality time with the Wife and Kids. :)

I'm a bit worried about you. Oh, the hand will be fine, I'm sure of that....but your wife.......seems to have a thing for slapping. I'd stay alert and be ready to duck at all times!
