Although a 60 point final game ain't bad. Even if you were named the designated shooter for the night. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk
When I quote the number of shaves that is in total. I use a DE blade for 3 daily shaves and it is gone. Some like Kerry @RaZorBurn123 go 2 and out while others see how far they can stretch blade life. For me and my purposes, I have found 3 shaves on a DE blade works and given the cost of each blade I am comfortable throwing it out before having a bad shave. YMMV.
I myself have been lucky to get 5-7 day from one blade. I agree with both of the above it is pretty much a personal preference. YMMV.
April 14, 2016 A month with my Schick Type F Hot Shower Razor: Schick F Blade: NOS Schick Ultra Platinum, Holland (1) Soap: Proraso Sensitive Brush: Rubberset 400-4 TSD Witch Hazel AS: Myrsol Blue Two-day growth, Two-pass shave - XTG, ATG My 2nd shave with this razor/blade combo. There was something about my first shave with the Dutch blade that seemed to be off, based on my previous experience with the Dutch in other razors. It seemed sharp but not very smooth and nowhere as smooth as the Plus Platinum. So I changed the blade out. Well that made all the difference. I must have pushed the blade along the blade stop while loading. Today’s shave was sharp and - as smooth or better than the shaves with the Plus Platinum. This was a great shave! Experience and advice from the old hands on TSD has taught me to trust my instincts to change out a blade when things don’t seem right. It’s a small cost spent even if you’re wrong about the blade. But it short circuits further complicated problem solving if it actually was the problem. Cheers! RT
I have all the Route 66 shave soaps. You can't go wrong with any one of their soaps. Bourbon Jungle is one of my favorites. I would get a sample pack and Bourbon Jungle.
I shave with one side, flip it over shave with that side, rinse repeat. I'm not sure if I use both sides equally but its pretty close. I get 3 days on most DE blades and can push it to an extra day or 2 depending on brand. I don't flip my blade over and push for more days. In a shavette with broken DE blades I get 2 shaves on each blade half.
Forgot to set an alarm last night so I woke up too late to shave. I did get to work on time. I'll start shaving in the evenings for the next 4 days and switch back when I have my next day off.
On blade life: High angle of attack with the razor rolls the blade bevel and dulls it. Using good technique and low angle of attack will extend blade life and performance. That being said... Blade selection and usage patterns are one of the most subjective things in all of traditional shaving. I would suggest that while you are trying to work out solutions, use a blade no more than two days. This insures that the blade won't become a variable, causing inadvertent technique adjustments to compensate for a dying blade. A concept that was important to me when I learned to shave with an 89type razor was that of "riding the cap". This means to always be sure that the top cap of the EJ89 remains in constant contact with your skin. This will provide a low attack angle, increasing blade performance and helping to avoid irritation from scraping.
Skills still survive, but he doesn't have an NBA body anymore. He's too beat up from twenty years in the NBA to be a consistent superstar these days. Kobe 2003-2011 was greatness!
Prep - soak brush while showering. Wash face with Neutrogena soap. Razor - Edwinn-Jagger DE89bl Blade - Derby (came with razor) Brush - Parker Safety Razor Silvertip Soap - DR Harris (Arlington) After - Aftershave (Mary Kay Domain) Fairly good shave today, not BBS, but pretty close. Most of what is left is on the throat. The change I made today was that I didn't bloom the soap. It seemed to take a bit longer to get the brush loaded, and had some doubts when I started lathering. However, adding some more water changed life completely! Oh yeah, this is WET shaving! I had enough for a three pass, but not much left for touch-ups. Overall, it went well. I have, however, found a PROBLEM WITH DE SHAVING. It seems that I am getting a much closer shave than before. Now my shaving schedule is all out of whack! Plus, I don't hate shaving anymore, which really compounds the problem. I work a really weird schedule, and haven't been shaving every day. Saw a post on TSD about not shaving everyday (can't find it right now), so was thinking everyother. Not sure what I'll do with that. (Dang it, can't shave today... Thinking of trying a cold water shave - perhaps tomorrow evening. But, by far - not even a close second - the best part of today's shave was that it is warm enough to have the bathroom window open! Yea for spring in Minnesota!
Nice work! Maybe try just 2 passes (WTG then XTG) on weekdays? Save the baby chasing for the weekends.....
Thanks for the advice all. Looking forward to trying again tomorrow. My Muhle does have the r89 head so will ensure I "ride the cap" as much as possible
Kobe welcome to the HOF! Guys like him don't come around often. Would you say Curry is the greatest shooter in NBA history? That's the chatter on sports talk radio, of course Bay area bias.
