@PickledNorthern It's always first use. Blades dull so quickly I use a new blade each time. I'm just trying to think this out: For a while I didn't go ATG often because I was trying to get in and out of the bathroom. Maybe once a week when I had time I'd go for bbs and I had more success not being irritated. I wonder if the time between Bbs shaves helped reduce irritation when I did go for it. I've gotten the satisfaction of bbs and no irritation enough that it's hard not to go for it.
It is good to have you around. Hopefully you can spend some time figuring out what you like, and what works best for you. I think you will find that most of the credit for not being able to cut yourself goes to the Weishi rather than the blades. It is a very "mild" razor. Derby's also have earned a reputation as being something of a mild blade, but they are still razor sharp....... You sound like you have a pretty lined out plan, all I would add is a reminder to try to always only change one component of a shave at a time, so you can pinpoint your changes. When your other stuff comes, I would recommend using Derby's in the Edwin Jagger, and Astra's in the Weishi. Have fun, someone around here has cookies or something.......
I hear you on that. Just stay patient and keep working on different angles. Do you have to go ATG on that swirl to get BBS? Can you divide it into four quadrants and take four small WTG strokes to hit it? Might be stupid time consuming, I don't know, but it beats razor bumps.
-Fessum 6/8" -Epsilon "Poor Man's Chubby" 27mm White Horse -Stirling Sandalwood Soap and Splash I tell you what, for how great this razor shaves, you can spank my unicorn and call me Strawberry Shortcake for all I care, I'm keeping it. Very much a Krylon day today.
Keeping the angle very shallow will often help to keep the blade cutting better and let it stay sharper longer. There is definitely something to letting your skin rest a bit. To be completely honest, I get my best shaves when I take a day off.
Nice picture, Ben. I really enjoy Sherlock soap; I wish I had gotten the AS. The the AS match the scent of the soap?
That's why I like my Sunday shave so much. Two day growth and a 3 pass shave. It don't get much better than that!
Yes it does but the leather and tobacco stand out more. I found the soap to smell more "clean", the AS really brings out the intended scents. Plus, the scent lasts all day
I do have to go ATG, I've tried several slight WTG passes. It's almost like in addition to being spiral it's also more coarse some how.
Can you do a couple WTG and then ATG when it is knocked down, or do all the passes make it worse? Just thinking out loud. Some people just can't do it every day, or sometimes even at all. You know you can do it, just a matter of trying different approaches until you hit on one that works for you. Honestly once I figured out beard growth direction, and was trying to hit the perfect shave, it probably, took me a year and a half to get it figured out to where there are zero problems. Course I am a slow learner.
This reminds me of Reagan's famous quote of what we all fear... someone who arrives in the office and says "I'm from the government and I'm here to help." Nowadays shipping out five dollars worth of ice cream cost over $100 in hazmat fees if I put it on dry ice. Having said all that, I'm pretty sure I can guess your favorite flavor!
Actually I hadn't even thought of that, but we stopped at a malt shop yesterday and I did order a strawberry cheesecake shake....... This damnable razor is my head, changing me somehow.
