Had a mustache for 27 years until it turned grey. Then one day I decided to shave it off. And off it stays! For now.

Thanks for the replys everyone, one more quick question, I find that my beard seems coarser now that my face is so smooth. Any suggestions for softening it up some I've tried basic conditioner while in the shower, but it hasn't helped much. Basically I'm sporting a little thicker chin strap that connects to a Van Dyke.

A pre shave oil. I would also recommend proraso red soap.

Geez, Kevin. That part down the middle just makes you look silly!
Had to let you know. Friends don't let friends wear silly hair styles.
Just lookin' out for ya, man.

I just want to clarify, I want to soften up the goatee. Now that my cheeks are almost BBS going from them to the coarseness of the goatee is getting some complaints ;) I guess I'm looking for a beard conditioner, if there is such an item.

Think about it - your beard is just hair on a different part of your head. Just use any hair conditioner.

I appreciate your concern, Steve. Obviously I've been blinded to my own vanity.
I may now have to reconsider something more socially acceptable...

I wear a goatee/mustache combo, although I've been fully bearded for a couple of months now. The day is coming soon, though, when I'll dust off my soaps and blades.

Clean shaven over here. I still haven't got enough to grow a full beard anyway.

'Stache and goatee here. I wore a full beard until a few months ago, thus the renewed interest in wet shaving. First time I've even thought about a razor in over 25 years and in four months time I have purchased 6 of them!

I used to sport a Van Dyke beard for years, but decided to go clean after I found traditional wet shaving. Loved the beard, looked awesome, but I hated trimming it, SWMBO disliked the scritchy part and according to several polls out there, around 80% of all females inhabiting the earth prefer a 100% clean shaven well-kept mug.

So who was I to argue??? Clean it is!

I have a full beard here which may seem against the whole shave world, but I keep it trimmed and I shave the upper cheeks and neck.
