    That is the thing, I guess. Maybe it is that I am a bit more tired lately, but I am getting such good shaves from my safety razors lately, with very little effort or thought. I attribute this to this thread, but also working with straights for several months. But, lately it has been nice to just pull a razor out, shave, and get a DFS with little effort or time. I don't want to say I am rushing things, as I am not, but I can just zone out a bit. I am not "Zen" type of guy, but this is almost how I would describe it. I enjoy the time greatly, but I am pondering other things while shaving. If I was doing the same with a straight, it would be trouble. It's like I start my shave, then before I know it, I am done. I've worked through things going on at work or at home. I used to say that I did my best thinking in the shower, but these past couple of weeks, it has been while shaving.

    It has been great, as I feel more relaxed and prepared for my day after I get done. I definitely still enjoy straights, but keeping these safety razors handy has proven to be nice as my time has gotten a little shorter lately.

    I always recommend beginners start with a 5/8" round point razor as learning to shave with an SR is difficult and sufficiently intimidating enough without having to worry about the potential (and often inevitable) cheek gouge a square/spike point yields...

    My last Flea Market run netted Leather, Oland, Bravo, and some more Wild Country that I already knew I liked. Avon seems to age well. Or maybe I'm ageing into it.

    Grand Blade Trial -Week off


    Razor - 1947 Gillette Super Speed
    Blade - [​IMG] (3)
    Soap - Tabac
    Brush - BoS Omega 10066
    Post - Alum, Aqua Velva Ice Blue

    Third shave on the Voskhod in the '47 Super Speed and I chose Tabac with the BoS today for lather. Great as always and nice to have Tabac floating about for a day. SWMBO was happy about that as well. This combo is still producing fantastic shaves with no alum burn to speak of and a great two pass shave today for a near BBS. I was going to do three passes but decided to stop after two and just let it ride. AV Ice Blue for a change and it made for a good start to an otherwise typical "Monday" for me. Yeah, I'm glad it's over. I knew when I got up this morning it would be a long day.

    Thinking of going pain stick tomorrow. Four more days of free-shaving until the next round of the Grand Blade Trial gets underway. I think I'll keep this pattern up. Ten blades in the trial, then a week off to have a bit of fun and keep in touch with the rest of my gear and blades. It will add some time to the process but hey....no reason to rush. Hope you all had a great day today! At least for most of you we're halfway through the week!
