I like the Parker SRX (good build quality, handles nicely, reasonable price @ $30), but please collect input from the other, more experienced guys here. You have plenty of time to make the decision while you continue to focus on your Tech. These shavettes are easy to come by later. You'll be glad you mastered the Tech before you tackle a shavette.

I couldn't resist the TOBS sitting on the side in the hotel room! It lathered wonderfully, smelt divine, and was lovely and slick! 1st pass WTG (XTG on chin), 2nd pass XTG, final ATG cleanup on chin yielded a nice clean shave with minimal irritation... Much less irritation than I have been accustomed to these past months... I will also say that my face and jawline are feeling smoother each time... I am not going ATG, so they are not BBS, but they are nice!

They're even cheaper than that over here (£18)! I am dead set on getting my technique bang on with the Tech before attempting ANYTHING else... I wouldn't have a face left if I jumped to a shavette now

 

@Bama Samurai Chris, how many shaves do you get out of those Derby singles?

About the razor...

here!

This style is common in salons and with barbers. Many manufacturers make this type. The other shavette I like is the all stainless Parker SRX, available for ~US$20.

 

I think I told everyone here that my neighbor looks a lot like Mr. Sovietly.

 

I really like the Magic. Cheap tool, I used mine a few hundred times, and other than scratches on the plastic, it's just as good as day one. For $11.

The SRX is heavier and obviously even more durable, but also a different design. If you love DE based shavette after trying, this is my only other strong suggestion.

 

On the survey update-we have Cookies jumping into the lead, and Toggle dropping .4%. Course only the former is newsworthy.

For that disco junk the BG's did, I DID look the other way. (Although I must admit, I do like Night Fever).

 

Usually one, because they're inexpensive. Have gone four days, but have never stressed a blade to its end.

Hint: The DE blades you already have may be folded (whilst still wrapped), and broken in half, and then used in a Magic type shavette. Cut the DE blade lengthwise with heavy scissors for SRX type. I say blades don't matter much in a DE. They matter even less in a shavette.
