Every Soviet or even modern Russian razor I've used has made Voskhods something to be feared. I doubt this one will disappoint. Must be strong like bear to use those combinations.
Try dry shaving a weeks worth of growth while in a walk-in freezer to simulate Siberian conditions. That will separate the men from the big hairy women.
This reminds me somewhat of a line in the movie Stalag 17. Shultz is telling the prisoners about his wrestling days in the U.S. He shows them a picture saying, Here I am when I was in Cincinnati. They ask him Who's the other wrestler? The one with the mustache? Shultz replies, That's my wife!
Thanks for such a quick and detailed response Clint! I have a few of the razors on that list and I'm anxious to try them. For September I'm considering either a Fatboy for comparison purposes with the Slim or...I really enjoyed the one shave I've had so far with Gillette New OC LC and I'm keen to focus on it as well. So many razors and only one shave a day!
Monday was a pressure cooker at the office and Tuesday is my daughter's birthday. As she and her brother live out of town and yet both are here for the week, I may not be around as much. Yes, yes, tough I know... but think of all the white space, or should I say, write space, that I'm leaving for the rest of you!
There is a price to be paid in blood to learn how to shave with an aggressive razor but once I learned the rewards have been great, close shaves, no blood and no irritation. So..... Crank It UP
August 11 Shave 8 3 passes with the Dovo and all was well, one nick due to operator error and only light irritation. I was tempted to go for the final pass with the Dovo but decided to finish with the Cobra. BBS and very little irritation, the irritation levels are reducing as hoped with this months focus. 1956 Gillette Super Speed Flair 1959 E3 Gillette Fat Boy Vulfix Super Badger (660) Georgetown G12 Scuttle Proraso Sandalwood cream Aqua Velva Ice Blue Shave #3 with the Astra Superior Platinum blade in my '59 Fat Boy set to 4. A nice shave, close and comfortable with the only slight irritation on the neck during touch up. 2 Full passes: Pass 1: WTG on my face and XTG/ATG on my neck. Pass 2: ATG. At this point, I had a near DFS shave. Lathered up again for touch up. I used some stretching and blade buffing to get the remaining stubble below my jawline. There were a couple of spots on my neck that didn't like it, but the irritation was minor. Aqua Velva seemed a lot quieter this morning, but I could feel some areas of stubble while rubbing it in. But a few minutes later all of those areas had receded, and I was left with a nice BBS shave. Another BBS shave from the Astra Superior Platinum and the Fat Boy. Tomorrow is shave #2 for the Gillette 7 0'Clock Super Stainless (Green) that I'll pull from the Super Speed.
Yes! I'm thinking of a September shave sampler. Kind of a shave through history (to the extent I can). My first would be a Gillette old type I picked up that appears to be the same as mr-razor.com's listing of the 1921-1928 Shawmut set. Identical handle, comb, markings. My case is in better shape, but his handle is in better condition than mine. http://www.mr-razor.com/Rasierer/Old Type/1921-28 Shawmut.JPG (I'll post a picture of mine when I have time). Next would be my 53 Tech, the 56 Super speed, and then the 59 Fat Boy. Not as much history as a lot of folks here could do, but I think it might be fun!
08/11/2015 Razor – Gillette Slim (J3) set on 9 Blade – Ladas (1) Brush – Rudy Vey with Shavemac Finest Lather – MdC Fougere Post - Witch Hazel & Fine Platinum Another great 3 pass shave with a small bit of touch ups this morning. A very near BBS which is about my best on a work morning. Finished up with a splash of Fine Platinum. Hope everyone has a great day.
