I am excited. I managed to get through my second use of a Feather AC SS without a bloodletting. I did one WTG pass with easy careful strokes and got a nice shave with one pass. I did nick a crease in my neck, but it was minor and just weeped a little. I stopped there and did a little finish work with my Leresche 51. I have confidence that I can figure this thing out with more practice. Thanks, I'll check it out. I really liked the Gillette Old Type and my face still feels almost as smooth as this morning. Does the Maggard OC shave much different than the Old? I figured that the Long Comb New or the Phoenix Double OC would be dramatically different from the Old and that (along with the many posts where folks are thrilled with them) led me in that direction. I've also heard about the Razorock Jaws, (the Cadet, Matador, and Perl supposedly being rebrands) but I haven't found any for sale. I'd like to get an open comb that shaves smooth and where the angle is easy to find and maintain. Of course, my wife is skeptical that I'll use the 5 razors I have now, so I need to put them all to work and be frugal when I do purchase another.
Purely my opinion but the Gillette New OC razors are fantastic. I find the New LC easy to use and very efficient yet not aggressive. The New LC or SC is different for sure. Even though they are reputed to be more aggressive, I found my Old Type to be less efficient than the New LC. YMMV.
I just recently started using Fine products as well. I have the Platinum and Fresh Vetiver, both of which are great. Hearing the talk about the L'Orange Noir makes me want to get some of that. The Snake Bite also sounds interesting, but I believe it is unscented.
Phoenix Comparison Focus Day 14: Homemade PS Oil Stirling Synthetic Brush Arko Cool SC Phoenix Dbl OC Stirling Unscented PSB Florida Water AS Today wraps up the second comparison between the Phoenix and one of my other razors, in this case the TV Special. The two razors have different character, but both provide me with a DFS and I rarely get any irritation from either. I don't know that I could pick a winner, so I will call this a tie. Tomorrow, I will pick up the FB, which should be different from both of these. When I did a focus on the FB, I found I liked it set fairly aggressively at 7. It will be interesting to see how this week goes.

August Focus - Slim and Feather AC August 14 It was an early Saturday morning following a longer than usual week. My alarm went off but I chose to ignore it and hit snooze a few times to many. By the time I went vertical and felt around for the coffee pot with my eyes still shut (freshly made coffee is hot, by the way) and went to take my shower I decided that shaving was out of the question. So, I offer the following as a weak and lame excuse for my "no-shave Saturday" today. That means two days growth for the Feather SS tomorrow! Have a great evening.
Day 14 - 15 August 2015 30 Day Rule - Phoenix OC Day two on the Rapira...and another easy automatic two pass shave. The Phoenix is delivering excellence basically every day. I am using stretching and short buffing strokes and finally getting the chin automatic now too. Finished with Alum, TSD ISZ and some Pinaud Clubman. My family visit ends tomorrow, back to the usual grind in Denver. Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado. Have a super Sunday!
One more day with the Slim on 5, and a couple things learned! Started as usual with the hot shower while soaking the bowl and the AOS badger in hot water. Then Proraso green preshave, followed by Proraso green shave soap, bombed of course! While I love Proraso preshave, the soap for some reason on my face dries out quickly, isn't as slick as the glycerin on my skin, and leaves my face feeling a little dry. I thought I'd give ti another try just to make sure, and I was right...maybe a pif coming. Anyhow, I did the usual 2 pass xtg and atg shave when I tried something new. I did an extra atg under the chin and on the neck in the opposite direction and found out this is what I was missing. Evidently my beard under the chin and on the neck grows almost willy-nilly, some right to left and some seft to right in the same areas, because with the two passes it was darn near bbs without touchups! Wow! And without the albeit mild irritation of chasing errant hairs during touchups! After that fine shave it was the usual Proraso preshave as a balm, followed by Gabels Lime (yes, I love Gabels) with extra m bomb. I used the hot weather beater 4 drops with one dose for the face and neck and another dose for the head and shoulders. Nice freeze! On to 6 tomorrow.
Your neck and mine may be related. I usually go to a Gillette Slide for clean up. Seems to work for me after the XTG.
