How high up in the hills are you? I live at 5190 or so above MSL. Most people start to notice the acute mild signs of altitude stress at 4500 or so, unless one has lived at altitude for 8-12 months.
At least you really have an excuse! Im only at about 1500 ft on this trip! But I've spent most of my life at sea level, so I'm sticking with the elevation defense for my late-night shenanigans!
I have been up here for 15 years now. Moving here was physically miserable. The dry air caused sinus bleeding for the first three months I lived here, and every hard physical task was suddenly exhausting. But, the human body is an amazing thing. After a year or so, everything just was normal again. Around here, and in the mountains, it's possible to immediately discern who the locals are. We are the people who aren't breathing quite so hard at the top of the stairs.
Sheesh, I gotta start exercising...doesn't matter about the elevation...I'm always the guy breathing heavy at the top of the stairs!
Last year, Mrs. Samurai's nephew visited. He is currently signed to a minor league hockey contract after being a D1 NCAA hockey player. He is 5-9, 170. I witnessed him sprint up the stairs at Red Rocks park, at an altitude of 6400 feet. The NBA Denver Nuggets run at that park to get super cardio during camp, and the players speak about how tough those sprints are complete. Her nephew likes a challenge, and he's a young guy. So, he carried his 5-10 girlfriend on his back as he literally sprinted up the amphitheater. I was literally in awe.
Don't be that guy... To be fair--he had to lie down at the top for a few minutes. It was an unbelievable display of power and endurance. He commented that his lungs felt as if they were bleeding and on fire, his thighs felt dead, and his heart felt like it was coming through his ribs. But alas, he pulled it off, though it nearly killed him.
It sounds like a conversation my wife and I have on more than one occasion.. Of course by slowing down the RAD, I just picked up on the SAD and ASAP. The other day, I told her I wanted to buy an Injector, and her response was "Just don't buy any more soaps or products." I wonder if she is now thinking RAD is a good thing.... And by this, you really mean this thread is a great place to find some enablers who encourage more ADs.
I seriously doubt she is eager to see more razors coming in the door. Sounds more like resignation rather than exuberance. Must have been what they call a Freudian slip. And I didn't even realize I was thinking it! Glad you were in this morning Doc!
1959 E3 Gillette Fat Boy Vulfix Super Badger (660) Georgetown G12 Scuttle Proraso Sandalwood cream Aqua Velva Ice Blue Shave #1 with the Personna Platinum (Israeli Reds) in my '59 Fat Boy set to 4. A really nice, smooth, very comfortable shave. One weeper. I used Noxzema again. I put a thin layer on my stubble while I prepared my lather. Then wet my face and applied lather. Nice slick surface. I used it again for my 2nd pass. 2 Full passes: Pass 1 WTG on my face and XTG on my neck. Pass 2: ATG. I had very little stubble remaining at this point. Even less than yesterday. A very near BBS. I gave the baby a chase and caught him without difficulty. I kept looking during my rinse because I just knew that that I had to have some stubble left, but I couldn’t find any. Until the Aqua Velva. It was quiet today but did wake up a few bits of stubble that disappeared once the A/S dried. A really great BBS shave from the Personna Platinum (Israeli Reds). I really like this blade. We'll see how it does on shave 2 & 3. Have a terrific Tuesday!
I grew up in the mountains of NM at 7000'. We used to laugh at all the people struggling with the altitude, especially in high school sports. Now I live on the Gulf Coast where MSL really means something as the tide greatly affects how far above the actual sea you are. Now, I am that guy breathing hard as I walk to the stairs anytime I get in any significant elevation.
Phoenix Comparison Focus Day 17: Homemade PS Oil Stirling Synthetic Brush Stirling Barber Shop Gillette Fatboy Stirling Unscented PSB Clubman AS I hadn't used the Stirling Barber Shop in a while, so it was time. Great shave with a nice Clubman finish. The FB was up to the challenge this morning. Tomorrow will be my last shave with it before I pick up the Phoenix again.
30 day Focus - Day 17 MDC Lavender Face Lathered Rapira Stainless Blade (Day 1 on blade, Day 5 on Rapira Stainless) Slim Adjustable set to 8 3 passes Another day, another shave. I am surprised at how little difference the blade makes when everything else stays the same. Yes, I know that some blades are better than others, but I have also come to know that the technique used seems to have a far greater affect on the shave than the tool.
08/18/2015 Razor – Gillette Slim (J3) set on 9 Blade – Feather (2) Brush – EJ XL STF Lather – Catie’s Bubbles Santal Sensuelle Post - Witch Hazel & Captain’s Choice Sandalwood with Menthol Added Another great near BBS shave this morning. The Feather blades have worked well for me in the Slim as well as during the OC June Focus. So I think I am just going to stick with them for a while. I am so glad that I added the menthol crystals to the CC Sandalwood AS. I really enjoy the cooling effect.
