August 26 Shave 16 I took the razor back through the pasted stops and that seemed to make a difference. Three passes with the SR and just two small weepers then I finished up with my Joris DE. I applied the alum after the shave and..... surprise no stinging. In addition to the irritation free shave it was BBS too. The BBS finale is courtesy of the DE but I without a good first three passes the BBS is not possible. Maybe it was the old school theme, Tabac, SR and Clubman???? I know many people give advice to not chase BBS because of the irritation but my usually BBS and no irritation go hand in hand for me. If I get irritation I also do not get BBS. You are very fortunate no one was hurt and very little damage done. I had a next door neighbor whose house was struck some years back. A couple of the rooms smelled of smoke and needed to be rewired. He too was blessed where it counted. No one was hurt.
Welcome back from the cruise! My wife and I took an Alaskan cruise in April, 2014. Loved it. I wasn't wet shaving then, so I didn't have to give anything up. I used to just take a small can of Barbasol and a cartridge razor with a few shaves on it. Don't know what I'll do when I travel now.
Thanks Bill! Agreed - Alaska is a beautiful place! We usually drive on our vacations, and I take all my shaving goodies. I could have taken more items in my checked luggage, but I was curious to see how I'd manage with a minimum shaving kit. It was OK, but not great. In fact, I'm still paying for the minimum prep and post-shave routine that I practiced for two weeks. So I learned something from the experience. If I could do it over, I'd include a pre-shave soap and at least one after shave product.
Shave sticks. User grade super speed. Couple of blades. Synthetic brush. Alum and/or AS. If you are into the zen experience of shaving, have a travel kit like this and the ability to face lather a stick soap...you give up nothing.
This is exactly how every shave should go. Hold that angle discipline, perfect your lather, develop a solid routine. Any day now you should be able to pick up just about any razor you like and have it figured out in one pass. Nice day of shaving!
Day 24 - 25 August 2015 30 Day Rule - Phoenix OC Grail shave. DFS on one pass, for the unfamiliar. Quit while I was ahead. Citrus Musk plus ISZ is definitely my new thing. That is all. Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado. Have a wonderful Wednesday!
I think this is only the third time ever. It wasn't BBS. But close. It was a super low angle modified XTG. I was trying a new pattern on my chin yesterday and thought of it. Had super good lather today so I essentially started with pass two pattern.
There is this other thing that I do periodically on TSD. It's pretty fun, and think others might have fun doing it too. My current group is in our third review episode now. Thanks for taking a look. Thread hijack soapbox over, resume normal shenanigans.
Some mornings, after a super shave the day before, I'm tempted to try an ATG pass to attempt to get a one-pass. But never try it, as I'm still working on consistency in my two-pass approach.
Maybe you should! Find out where your technique really lies. It should be no problem, especially on minimal growth. And again, I'm not talking about one pass BBS.
I am leaving for Hawaii next week. Keeping my kit to a minimum, so you will see my focus next month actually include a DE.
