Good thing we still, mostly make our bacon by ourselves here, if we don't do the slaughtering ourselves we buy the meat from farmers, cure, smoke and dry until we have the most awesome home made bacon in the universe
A drinker I have been but am no more. The malts and some of yon good blends were just a bit too nice, if you know what I mean. Ales as well. I'd like to be able to sit down with my Dad, have a wee dram of Laphroaig and a touch of water just enough to unlock its mysterious wonder but I know I can't. Still Haggis is good! And Bacon!
Aye and a good word at that! Glenfiddich too and my local lowland one, Glenkinchie. Talisker.... What about the blends though, don't discriminate. Ever had The Dimple? (and no, this isn't a haggis style wind up or a snipe hunt)
I'm very new to scotch, so no I haven't had any of the blends, I think. But, I do love lagavulin and Jura Propehcy isn't far behind. I like peatiness.
How much peatiness? Time for the Laphroaig - so peaty that some poor sods liken it to TCP, an antisceptic mouth wash. This is a malt that benefits from a dash of not too cold water. Talisker is a peaty fellow too. Oh and try, if you get the chance, the Edradour. From Scotland's smallest active distillery it isn't peaty but is just damn good. They make a cream, think Baileys then stop - this is so very much better. Beyond that I cannot help, having cut my drinking short in its prime. Just as well too or I probably wouldn't be here.
I've had Dimple pinch, and I wasn't terribly impressed with it. I'd rather drink Drambuie. I've also had Edradour. Not bad, but very mild. My favorite is Glenmorangie's Single Malt, finished in Sherry Casks. I think it's called Nector D'Or or something like that. The Glenmorangie 15 year old is very good too. Famous Grouse is another that I like, mainly due to W.E.B. Griffin. All the characters in his books seem to be drinking it. Ditto for the Macallen, which I first heard about in the novel, "Heroes Die" or was it "Blade of Tyshalle"? Either way, good stuff. I love great Single Malt Scotch, but I only buy about two bottles a year. It's all I can afford.
Apart from bacon (which was the cause of this thread, remember?) I'm fond of Drambuie, Famous Grouse, Haggis, Glencannon (a Scottish ship engineer whose adventures were written by Guy Gilpatric) And talking about haggis, did ya know this one?
That is a very nice looking pile of Bacon! Every year on my Birthday I eat an entire pound of Bacon and no one is allowed to have even one slice...it's much better than cake!
I love me my biscuits and bacon gravy. I don't know why restaurants always serve biscuits and gravy with sausage gravy, it's clearly inferior. Maybe sausage gravy is just a Northwest and Midwest thing.
Okay, I tried this for the first time this evening. And well there's only one way to sum this up: Bacon gravy, where have you been my whole life?
Yes I will be eating both to prepare for winter and the impending porkmageddon. Thank god there is no kimchi shortage.
Happy Korean Thanksgiving! My wife just bought 50 pounds of Chinese cabbage for her next batch of Kimchee, I can't live without it anymore,,,
