I actually bought a K2 off eBay last night. The guy dropped the price with one day left so I pulled the trigger. Still payed up a little for it but it's my birth year and quarter and it looked really good. Still wanting another K2 that's in good working condition to customize.

Wow. 1980 means that all you could get is a Super Adjustable (Black Beauty) and a black handled superspeed.

What's crazy is that I'm having a harder time getting the black handled superspeeds for a decent price than the 40's SS.

I found a black beauty and super speed so far but both are quite a bit older than I....

Still want to try a fatboy regardless of age.

I paid about $30 for my birth year razor: an '80 Gillette Super Adjustable.

Thanks! Got another K2 coming, I got it from a good member of the shave den! It's a candidate for a Delta Echo restore!

Because Gillette kept fiddling the design I haven't worried about a BYR. My E4 Fat Boy shaves well and is more easily serviced than a G1. If I happen to come across a Flare Tip, Starburst (Lady's), or Slim adjustable in the wild I'd pick them up. Guess the shave is more important to me than the Collection value. YOMV :happy088:

    So, I should be watching for a G1? 1961, or 1986 :)

(I'll go through my collection anyway, and see what's there)

I'm learning, probably will never stop learning. For me birth quarter was where I wanted to start. There's something nostalgic about shaving with a razor that's as old as me. Kinda like an old dog that's never left your side. For now anyway, the value is not what's important, I just want to enjoy the journey!

Only for your own increased familiarity with you gear, Sir. I have plenty of toys in my box. I share a birthday & year with J L D.

That could be the reason to not have great concern as my wet shave journey started with vintage straight razors. Most all are quite a bit older than I.

I managed to get a birth year (1948) SuperSpeed some time ago. So long ago that I cannot remember what I paid honestly. Never have shaved with it BTW. Too nice, but I shave with a '47 once in awhile. I also managed to score a Dunhill pipe made in my birth year, a shape 59 billiard. :) 1948SuperSpeed1.JPG 1948SuperSpeed2.JPG

I bought a $25 BY Red Tip but honestly didn't like it enough to keep it. I'm not a Gillettist anyway, so I'm happy with my Schick I2 from the same period.

I like that, mind if I use it?
Does that mean you are a "Schicker"? Several models of those I enjoy.
I know there's many that prefer their Gem & Micromatic type SE's, but they just don't work for me.

Apologies Sir. I didn't realize that was already a word, and not a pleasant uplifting term.

Hehe, just kidding. I do like my Schicks, but still enjoying exploring DEs, I just find more of interest outside the Gillette world.

I have a birth year Super Speed flair tip, in my profile picture. I paid $22.50 plus shipping in 2015. I would need a Slim if I were to get my birth year adjustable, but I just aquired an E 1 Fatboy, so I am good for a while.
