This is good for chicken, ground beef (we use ground bison, but I'm reasonably sure it will work with beef, too) lamb or steak. Ingredients; 1/2 c. brown sugar 1/2 c. bourbon (We like Maker's Mark for this) 1/2 c. soy sauce 1 clove crushed garlic 1 tsp. ground ginger Put all of the ingredients into a saucepan & heat over the lowest flame, until the brown sugar is dissolved. Allow to cool & pour into a jar. Keep refrigerated. BTW, the bourbon you use will make a difference. If you have a different preference, by all means, use your own favorite. I won't use cheap stuff (like Jim Beam) because it is too sweet and lacks the smokiness of better brands.
All I need is a bottle of Old Grand Dad and some Chicken McNuggets. That does sound great. Thanks for posting.
arak is anis based: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arak_(drink) Actually I have no idea if it's suitable for cooking.
It would have very different taste that bourbon does. It doesn't sound great for a marinade, but that's just my opinion.
I wonder how it would work if you substituted the 1/2 c. soy sauce with Worcestershire sauce or beef broth? Throw in some mushrooms and garlic! Yum.
