How would I do that? Do I add it in while the soap is liquid and warm?

I also didn't take any pics. Sorry. I'm just not in the habit of doing it while shaving like alot of people are so it totally slipped my mind.

The lather wasn't as gigantic and creamy as commercial products are, like Proraso, but it was very protective and very slick. It gave me an irritation free and bloodless shave that was comfortable enough to slather cologne on afterwards(something I've never been able to do).

I bought a pound from Brambleberry. Comes in a bag of small flakes. I just put it in with the soap prior to melting, then gave it a stir after. Forgot just how much I used per pound of soap, but it wasn't much.

Just got home and checked my recipe - two teaspoons of steric acid per pound.

Alright. I'm going to either do that, or try to find it locally by ounce.

If you have a craft store in your area that sells MP soap base, they will probably also have stearic acid.

I bought that pound on Amazon Prime. It'll be here tomorrow then I'll remelt one of the batches with it and we shall see.

I know, I know. I suck at taking pics. Hopefully the stearic acid will thoroughly improve the lather and be that icing on a cake. I want to get the recipe pretty perfect before I send out a couple big mugs as christmas presents.

Don't expect the stearic acid to perform lathering miracles, just make the soap last a bit longer.

You said you hope the stearic acid will improve the lather. It might, but I doubt it. Brambleberry says it is a hardening agent, which will help the soap last longed - read "more shaves".

In your opinion, is there anything else that I should maybe add to it besides the previous list and the addition of stearic acid?

Mix some goat milk MP base with your glycerin base. It's great for your skin & lathers well.

I'll defer to @Sara-s as I made bar soap for the shower - m&p soap base, stearic acid and scented oil. Works for me.

Edit to add - she's already on it!

Okay. I'll keep that in mind when I run out of this 5 pound order and have to buy more if I like it enough. Even the first batch with the weird layer gave me an awesome shave. I just lathered up the re-melted and layer-removed version and it was great again.

Thanks for all the help everyone. Tomorrow, I get the stearic acid pound am going to redo one of them and use the other as a control. So, tomorrow I shall shave with the old one or one of my commercial ones. Then I'll give results on Tuesday.

Here's a couple pics I took. The final recipe is thus

    Brambleberry Soap recipe
    -4 oz Shaving base
    -1/2 teaspoon Stearic Acid
    -1/2 tsp Bentonite Clay
    -5 drops Tea Tree
    -10 drops TJ's Vit. E
    -splash of Pure Aloe

It doesn't build explosive lather like some commercial soaps/creams do. But it's uber good for me :). There's an arm shot. The hairs were standing up pretty good. That was lathered with my "worst" brush, but my favorite brush, an Ever-ready 150 with original knot(sat in someone's attic for years, has that horrible dingy smell, but I think finally broke in.) I didn't take a pic of what it looks like on the brush. It looks the same as any other soap. I figured that shot was more important.

Here's a couple bowl lather shots. Production from one 100% saturated brush lathered straight out of the mug and then to the bowl with my original Escali Pure Badger Brush. Always test new products with my most hated brush to thoroughly test their might.

Also, I never tried that bowl before. Didn't know it would be so awesome, haha.
