    The Mrs makes a nice bread pudding. I'll have to ask her to consider another very soon.

    Ya have to follow the bread recommendations, makes a diff! Faily easy to make!

    * 1 lb loaf day-old challah, cubed (Jewish egg bread)
    * 8 large eggs
    * 3 1/2 cups whole milk
    * 1 1/2 cups whipping cream
    * 2 cups sugar (white, brown, or a combination)
    * 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
    * 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg (preferably fresh ground)
    * 1 cup raisins or dried cherries

    1. Butter a 13 x 9 x 2 dish.
    2. In a separate bowl, combine all ingredients except bread and raisins/cherries.
    3. Mix until eggs are well incorporated.
    4. Add bread cubes and raisins/cherries and mix until combined.
    5. Pour all into dish.
    6. Refrigerate a minimum of 2 hours, up to overnight (longer won't hurt).
    7. Bake at 350F for 1 hour, 15 minutes.
    8. Serve warm or at room temperature with sweetened real whipped cream.

    LA Bread Pudding

    Bread Pudding...from the Bon Ton Cafe, another good one we've tried.

    BREAD PUDDING
    1 loaf French bread 2 tablespoons vanilla
    1 quart milk 3 tablespoons margarine
    3 eggs 1 cup raisins
    2 cups sugar
    Soak bread in milk; crush with hands till well mixed. Then add eggs, sugar, vanilla and raisins and stir well. Pour margarine in bottom of thick pan and bake until very firm. Let cool; then cube pudding and put in individual dessert dish; when ready to serve, add sauce and heat under broiler. Serve with Whiskey Sauce.
    WHISKEY SAUCE
    1 stick of margarine
    1 cup sugar
    1 egg
    Cream the sugar and egg until well mixed. Add melted margarine and continue to dissolve. Add whiskey to taste which should make sauce creamy smooth.
    These are original recipes ofAlzina Pierce of the BON TON RESTAURANT,
    401 Magazine Street, New Orleans, Louisiana.

    I managed to upset the mother in law with my bread pudding as everyone prefered mine to hers.

    Its much simpler than most recipes but I think its the best.

    4 large slices of white buttered bread. Arrange in a bowl.
    4 ozs sultanas or raisons. (Make sure the majority are buried by the bread else they will burn)
    2 table spoons of brown sugar sprinkled over the bread.

    Custard part
    1 pint of milk
    beat three eggs into the milk.
    Add 2 oz white sugar and mix into the milk and eggs.

    Pour custard onto the bread .

    Cook in an oven until set.

    Eat. Nice mmmmmmmm.
