Several TSD members own some nice razors made by Brian Brown (Click Here for website) and after several email conversations with Brian, I decided to place an order for one. This is my first custom razor as all others have been of the restored vintage variety. The Specifics: Carbon steel blade; thicker hollow-grind, 6/8"width, French point; shoulderless; thumb notch with upper jimps Three-pin scales of burl/figure wood scales; broader on the wedge end; G10 scale liners. Brass/nickel-steel hardware I was waffling back n' forth between choosing either the 6/8"and the 7/8" width. I alternated 6/8" and 7/8" razors in my SOTDs for a while before I finally came to the conclusion that I have a slight preference for the 6/8" size. After several weeks, I received these 'from the work bench' teaser photos from Brian, taken before finishing work and honing. Bird's eye walnut. Red G10 liners. I'll post more images when I have the finished razor in hand....soon!
Really nice piece , Kevin! I plan on rewarding myself with a custom next August, for 40 years with the same company I'm really having a hard time with commandment #10 You shall not covet your neighbor’s Straight razor . You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor. — Exodus 20:17
Keith, both your's and Brian's BB razors inspired me to give one a try...even if the razor happens to be less than a century old.
Passaround 1. DaltonGang 2. Mrchick 3. Kokak 4. ... Last: dustmite, who will run away and hide with it! Beautiful razor, can't wait to see it finished. If it shaves half as good as it looks, you're in business!
Very nice razor, Kevin. Brian is a good guy, and his razors are awesome. I really enjoy mine. I am sure you will yours.
