C'mon 3 o'clock...c'mon 3 o'clock...c'mon 3 o'clock... Those handles are looking great Jim! Can't wait to see 'em with the new knots.
The knots arrived around 4pm. After making the holes deeper and wider with the Dremel, I have done a dry fit. I have to get me some 5 minute epoxy tomorrow, and I will set them permanently. On the left: SilverTip Badger hair Knot 22/65MM On the right: Pur tech Synthetic Faux badger Knot 22/65MM Both are set about 50MM. After I got the right width and depth, I finished it off with some emery paper and sealed the insides with Minwax Polyurethane. Now, it will dry over night and I will set the knots with the 5-minute epoxy tomorrow.
Thank you, Tom. Guys like you have inspired me to do this. I am planning to start using them on the New Year.
I located my 5-minute epoxy and glued the knots in this morning. The loft on each is about 53mm. I think I will wait until tomorrow to do some test lathering. I will be traveling on the first, so one of these will be going with me. I will be using them during the month of January. Maybe I will alternate between them. This is fun.
I did test lathers this morning with each of the brushes. Brush 1 is the silver tip badger. I used Arko Extra Performance Shaving Cream with it. With brush 2, the synthetic, I used TOBS Lavender Shaving Cream. I did not notice any hair loss with either brush. That's a good sign. Here is brush 1 hanging out after the test lathering. It will be going on its maiden shave tomorrow along with Col. Conk's Amber Shave Soap and my Schick I2 with Personna blade.
I am enjoying this thread. Well done. Be careful as many of us who work brushes know, creations and mods of any product is the most addicting and costly disorder in the shaving realm. Far outstrips any other AD out there. Nioe work and these brushes have a rustic charm all their own!
