Here's the other extreme (kinda). A Shavemac 24mm finest silver tip (fan shaped). I put it in a 26mm hole and set the loft to 46mm. Worked great but obviously feels different than the boar. Different but not necessarily better.

I have not found a brush that beats my Plisson yet. I bought a Semogue 620 to everyone's recommendation on every forum ever, and so far it hasn't beaten Angel Pubes Johnson.

Personal preference: I prefer boar & synthetic for face-lathering; badgers for bowl-lathering.
¿Por qué? I find the stiffness of the boar brushes are a natural for generating good face lather as well as stimulating/scrubbing the whiskers.

My favorite face lathering brush is my Semogue 1438. I love it with Stirling SDM and sticks like Arko, Palmolive & LaToja

Same knot as the 1520 and 620 right?

    Pretty sure the 1438, 620 & 1520 are all 50 loft / 21 knot

For sure. I just got a 620 a week and a half ago, and I'm still breaking it in. I don't shave everyday, but I've been soaking it and letting it totally dry everyday and it's breaking in nicely. It still can't beat my Plisson though, but it does decimate hard soap and feels great on the face.

Timely thread I'm watching with interest. My son recently began wet shaving, but he currently uses canned stuff and, if I know him, disposable razors. I'd like to buy him a quality brush and razor and had no idea what to buy. I'll get him to use my shave soap eventually, so hoping the right equipment will convert him!

I enjoy the Semogue 620 also. It is a great face lathering brush IMHO.
