I wish we had a dating chart or something, it does appear to have an early shape to it. A date code would have been nice, but these things were supposed to be used for a while and then thrown away!
Well here's just a simple re-knot. It had been re-knotted by a previous owner with a horsehair knot, and I liked it at first, but it got floppier every time I used it. I got a 24mm black and white synthetic from Maggard and switched it. Before,.... After,....
Another knot swap, this is one that someone gave to my son. It came with an old nylon knot, I used a 20mm black and white synthetic from Maggard. The old knot. Last three group shot.
VERY nice results! How'd you manage to get the old knot out so cleanly? I've always cut the bristles flush then drilled and chipped the old knot out. Works fine, but messy as can be. Your method almost looks white-glove.
Grabbed it by the hair and pulled, which gave me the knot still stuck in the black ferrule. I whittled away at the bottom of the ferrule until the knot came out. Got lucky!
