This is so true, Ryan. We're praying for a wet winter this year! This would mean plenty of snowpack, which means dearly needed runoff for reservoirs. Very lean rainfall the past few years. Heres' a popular image depicting a close to 'normal' snowpack (2013) versus what fell this past year.
Ours are all hydroponic. Drive through my neighborhood on a hot day and you can find them pretty easily
All I can say is waterless or composting toilets. If their use was promoted or even required at least in new construction, while it might not end the drought problem it would certainly help and be a move in the correct direction IMO. Using rapidly disappearing fresh water to flush away and then treat human waste as pollution is insane. Besides we need the water for important things like shaving!!!
That would help a bit, but really toilets are just the proverbial 'drop in the bucket' when it comes to water usage. As mentioned earlier in this thread, agriculture gets the most...79% Thirsty Crops
This makes me think about all the water used in the ALS cold water challenge. We are a country of excess and a very wasteful one at that.
