I have the MR3 en-route so thanks for the advice. BTW, it seems the blades have a "wire" across them? Is that to tame the blades' aggressiveness and give a smoother shave?
Yes, the wires are an anti-nick guard, and help to minimize irritation. I have yet to suffer either of the two through eight shaves with the MR3. Clayton
I had a great head shave today! Used my Gillette Atra handle and a generic blade made by Schick. This is a winning combo for me. The blades were $3.49 for 6. If you buy a larger quantity the price per blade drops down drastically.
Right now I'm going to see how many good shaves I can get per cartridge, once I've figured that out I'll know how many I'll need a month. And then I'll buy accordingly, but I won't buy bulk like I've done with DE blades. Most likely I'll have a two month supply on hand.

Yes Sir, 15 shaves . I'd to go through a lot of experimentation until I was finally able to hit the proper mileage technique (usage and maintenance). Before that, getting just 8 shaves used to be a big acheievement for me. It took time, but in the end it was worth it and I've really fallen in love with this razor. . Purchasing more carts (Packs of 6,8 and 12) feels a lot more satisfying than purchasing new razors. If I shave with Proglide everyday, I won't have to worry for my supply of carts for the next two years
Thats cool. I bet I could get a bite more shaves now, but I dont feel like going back to carts. I have an urge to try one out, but I'm not purchasing fusion carts =P the most important thing about this is to get a good shave, and you do =)
And also if you decide to try, and don't have a discount code, type in "smarter" in the promo code slot. I don't think you get a discount but a youtuber "Smartereveryday" gets some funding. I like his channel
Finally received my Gold plated Sensor - looks great to me. Unused, with all paper work, cartridges, etc. Pretty good for a 25 year old cartridge. @Sabre Did you get yours with the pen?
They say a true talented musician can make great music with whatever instrument is thrown at them. Same with shaving, a true talented shavist can use any gear and still look like a million bucks. All kidding (sorta?) aside; I have only one problem with cartridge razors: price. Other than that, I've never had trouble with any cartridge razor (notice: I say cartridge, not disposable) I can get comfortable shaves with the Mach 3, Fusion, Schick Hydro, Quattro, Dollar Shave Club/Dorco. You name it, I can use it. It's all in the prep, what you do that leads up to razor contact. Now, on that note; this is something that is seldom referenced due to everyone's lack of caring in this department, but for the sake of it I'll bring it up. Disposables and cartridges yield different results. Meaning, I can pick up a Mach 3 handle and cartridge and get the perfect shave. The next day I can pick up the Mach 3 disposable counterpart and shave with it and get less than stellar results. Why? Simple. Disposables are paper weight. The weight of the disposable handle vs the cartridge handle is night/day. The hefty cart handle provides a sturdier and firmer glide whereas the disp just kind of sits on top of the stubble as it's pulled down, resulting in a pass less than desired. I have no problems with carts. Like the motto says, it's YOUR shave, enjoy it YOUR way!
Remove the head of the disposable, and attach it to a handle of a Mach 3 system or aftermarket handle...
Interesting perspective, Justin. I have noticed a similar thing regarding weight. I use heavy, aftermaket handles for all my preferred cartridge styles. The last time I went on a trip, I took a stock Sensor handle (which, of course, isn't even disposable), and was amazed at how much less luxurious the shave felt, due to the light weight of the handle. I'm not sure the results were any worse, but the act of shaving was less enjoyable for me.
I didn't know you could snap off disposable carts without them breaking. Then again I've never tried it.
