I started a thread back in March on a vintage straight razor with a 'civil war' pedigree. See thread here: http://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/civil-war-era-rebel-razor.43727/ I finally got around to getting this old razor mounted for display. No, never had plans on shaving with it. Some pics...
I did catch a boo-boo! I mistyped the date on the background art (duh!) and it has been corrected (its 'April' not 'August').....
Kevin, as a history buff I respect what you did but would have to say your a better man than me. I would have had to have shaved with it at least once. Looks great, you made the right choice. Congrats.
Oh believe me, Steve, I was tempted to give this old razor a good clean up & run on the hones. However, the delicate condition of the engraved scales (wherein lies the real historicity of this item) gave me pause and so I opted to not 'mess' with the overall condition of the razor. I have a couple other Wostenholm framebacks that I have shaved with from around that era so I'm familiar with the 'feel.' I decided some items are best left as is and not risk furthe possible deterioration.
Bloody fantastic presentation Kevin, and an absolutely perfect way to display such an historical artifact. You smashed it out of the park. Well Done!
