I have a totally different razor, but from the same era, and it has very similar geometry to the head of your razor. Mine, although beautiful, is almost useless as a shaver. I am pretty sure it is because it is designed to take early, heavy gauge three hole blades (it came with some). So when you put in thin modern blades, the cap sits tighter than designed, flattens the blade and makes it nearly impossible to remove hair with. I know it can be shimmed, but I have enough other razors that this one can just stay in its case looking snazzy. Yours may not do this, but I thought I would throw the info out there just in case.
Thanks, any information is appreciated as I know little to nothing about this razor. I'll be shaving with it tomorrow morning so I guess I'll find out then how it actually works
First shave with it this morning. It didn't rip my face open - not even close. After 5-6 WTG strokes I actually wondered if there was a blade in it. I could see very distinct 'rake marks' in the lather from the OC head which made me think maybe my angle was off a bit. Switched to a much more shallow angle a la SE razor style and that improved the shave significantly. After two passes (WTG and ATG) I felt my face, expecting to find a lot of stubble I would have to clean up but was surprised to find a very smooth shaved skin. So the shave was a bit confusing - it never truly felt as if the razor was very efficient but...I can't argue with the great end-result. I think I'll just hold on to it
