I had never actually smelled this, and saw it in a drug store today. So I bought it. I opened it near the pharmacy while I was waiting for my meds, and my daughter bumped my hand. There is a CVS in Lawrence, Kansas with a chair in the pharmacy waiting area that smells VERY strongly of Clubman now. You could smell it in the entire store when I left. I don't know what SWMBO will think of it. Best just to suprise her like I did with the old spice, right?
Better to ask for forgiveness than permission. Clubman is a scent I really enjoy and still wear in the right situations... Good luck with your lady. She certainly can't complain about the price if she likes it. About $7 every 20 years lol....
If she doesn't like it, I may use a few drops in the jeep to make it smell good. It seems strong enough to use this way, and it smells better than the pine trees.
Yeah, SWMBO is not a fan of the Clubman scents at all. The Bay Rum she can tolerate, and saying she tolerates is being generous. But she loves 3 of the Fine AS, so that works for me...
My wife, who shares a house with four men (my 3 sons & I) knows all too well what men smell like! By the way, roll back the cologne clock about 100 years and popular masculine scents were distinctly floral— rose, jasmine and even lilac. I venture to guess that 'tastes in scent' moved away from the floral and migrated more towards the powdery spice realm (Clubman, Old Spice & the like)
My wife is considerably younger than myself. Every time I wear one of my old-school aftershaves such as Pinaud Bay Rum or even Clubman she says I smell like an "old geezer." She has given me many fragrances which her brother or cousins wear, but very few of them appeal to me.
Well, I didn't even get the bottle open and she is not impressed. I had opened it a few hours earlier, and apparently the whole bathroom and hallway smells like cheap cologne now. Going to give it a try this weekend, so I don't make people at work cry if it is bad, but the outlook is not good at this point.
That's pretty much how original Clubman got banned from my house. She claims after I put it on that the whole house smells like it for hours after. Also after several weeks of me wearing it she decided that it smells "like old man." I think it smells like a barbershop.
I'm lucky. Nothing has been banned as of yet. I'm a fan of Clubman. Very clean smelling. It is a bit strong though. I think I put on too much one time, and everyone at work kept asking what smelled like baby powder.
I love the Pinaud line and more importantly, my wife loves them! Says it smells manly instead of girly! After all, do we really wear AS or cologne for ourselves or others?! Hmm, a little of both I guess. Since my SO and I both love it, send the stuff your SO and/or family hates this way and help make my wife happy. Remember, happy wife, happy life!
So I just finished 30 days of random aftershaves and the winner is... Clubman according to the wife. She said she would be fine if that's all I used but I like variety.
Put it on after my shave today, and it calmed down quickly. My wife actually likes it! It seems I like If I don't put it on too thick, I should be able to wear to the office too.
My wife used to buy me fancy shmancy expensive colognes from the perfume counter at her favorite overpriced department store. We're talking $60+ a bottle eurotrash swill. I rarely used any of it (Drakkar Noir briefly, some Oscar and Giorgio for a bit) but all of it has gone to her son. Since joining this forum I heard about Clubman so when I saw it for $7 or so at the local pharmacy I decided it was a cheap experiment. I always use scents sparingly so I put less than a dime sized dribble in my hand and then rubbed on my face after my next shave. Her reaction was immediate exclaiming how great I smelled! She seems to repeat that sentiment a lot since. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones to have a wife that likes Clubman. I noticed someone in this thread said their family described it as "powdery." That's one of the things I like about it...it DOESN'T smell like baby powder. Just about every fragrance I got from my wife over the years was too sweet and reminded me of Johnson's Baby Powder. Yuck. Not so with Clubman, IMO.
I would like to assure you, Mr. Shaverman, that I am not on that list. . The only issue I have with it is that I've come to believe that their great shampoo cuts off the need for conditioner, and I still have a lot of the Hair Tonic left.....may decide to chuck that.
I'd like for them to have Clubman's larger sizes too-I presume they had just the 6 oz. at your store?
