I got this English Flat Bottom LC New in a lot of razors a long time ago. I kind of cleaned it up, but it had severe plating loss on one corner, so it sat around never used. I was inspired by @twhite and @GAW9576 to do this modification. Tom had created a DE razor with no comb and @GAW9576 did the same modification I am doing here. Before I started. See the plating loss. That is the side that will go. I clamped it in my vice to remove the comb with a hack saw. The comb is now gone. Now I am going to have to dress the cut and deal with the corrosion. I got most of the grunge off and now have a brush finish on the cap. I am calling this my Comb/No-comb razor. Here it is finished with my Razor Emporium Ball End Handle.
Here is the razor I have that was referred to above. Mine is a new long comb. I don't have an RFB let alone a spare for modification.
I wanted to see if a half blade would work in this configuration. It looks like it will. It appears to clamp the blade in securely. I will be trying this out next week some time in conjunction with @GAW9576 and will post results here.
I figured it would with the little tabs on the bottom of the cap to hold the blafe from shifting forward.
Just for future reference, most people leave the outer teeth in place when they trim the teeth. The blade corners can be 'bitey.'
I'll keep that in mind if I make another one. This one had a badly bent outer tooth on that side which is why I picked it for the mod.
I had an excellent shave today with my newly modified Gillette New long comb/no comb loaded with a new Bluebird. The JA Henckels Rapide with an 8th use Gem SS PTFE also came out to play.
