Your initial assessment is correct. With that said getting that case at the right price and trying to get the correct razor afterwards is something worth pursuing if you want a complete set.

Already have 2 slims, don't need the case (yet), might make a cheeky offer and use the razor to practice cleaning.

The handle is silver plated and lacquered (yellow spots), the head is most likely rhodium.

 

Hello, working on a No 53 set and as ivory blade dispensers are close to unobtainable it would be great if I could use a "plain" blue dispenser.
This combination would be plausible if the No 53 was produced/sold in 1953-54, but I can not find any evidence of the No 53 set after 1952.
Any pointer greatly appreaciated.

 

i guess we need to find you an ivory dispenser.will keep an eye out.

 

I found a '47 in the wild today, excellent condition, excellent price, and I look forward to shaving with it. I parted ways with the one I had previously, don't know why, but this is indeed one of the best TTO shavers Gillette produced and a welcome readdition to the stable.
