Meeeee too. I've had a routine going, at this gym, since 2003. Now I take long bike rides or walks, every day. Not happy.

Morning of Day 5 - Operation Isolation

We got the news that as of yesterday the 2 Northern Idaho Counties are still China Virus free, 14 tests came back negative, you have to understand that we only have about 50,000 people in that whole Panhandle of Idaho ..

I am under the impression that all the unprepared "flatlanders" that keep running south to Costco will spread it here :( we have colorful names for people that really should NOT be living rural up here :)

We had 52° yesterday so I went and got the tree that I had hung a few weeks ago down, that was fun hehehehe Thank You Kubota power

If you look really close, right side,, just above the chain you can see where the Woodpecker marked the infestation for me :) They will tear chunks out of the tree to get to the Carpenter Ant Larve, pretty cool huh...

Made some Homemade Pizza last night, ain't as if we can get "Delivery" on any day, let alone now hehehe we scooted over to the local gas station to top off the Jeep and I got us a 6'er of Perroni to wash down the Pizza

The only real "change" we are doing other than both being home, is that I started checking both of our temperatures, every morning two weeks ago when this started to ramp up, with Shan's job of dealing with the public every day (County DMV) I wanted to stay ahead of anything..

Still Healthy in the INW (Inland Northwest) :D

Mo Coffee, then over to the Honing Table, as I listen to the MEDIA Hype :p

    Stay Healthy My friends

A recent study suggests that COVID-19 may in fact be a chimera virus that resulted from two related viruses infecting the same animal simultaneously, combining within, and mutating to a form that can infect humans.

What makes COVID-19 so dangerous is its ability to proliferate, as explained in this video:

    https://twitter.com/i/status/1241803403619172359

This means that for everyone downplaying the severity of this pandemic—the ones headed down to Florida for spring break to infect one another with coronavirus heedless of the cost, the people going out not thinking they'll contract it and pass it on—each infectee will end up passing the virus on to 59,000 other human beings. Most will not display symptoms. Those who do, many will recover, others will not. This isn't something to make too much light of. Morbid humor, perhaps, to help get us through the day, but let's not make fun of those who rightly are taking precautions to protect other people from infection.

I envy your lifestyle. My retirement home, hopefully, will be rural, and wooded. But, my wife doesnt like bitterly cold weather, and I dont like sweltering heat. I prefer the mountains. Quite the predicament.
Only one suggestion, add some fresh Basil to the pizza.

It is a lot of work, but good clean work and honestly I bitch and complain when I have to go out at 5:00 am to clear the road in the winter or do the seasonal pruning around the buildings to stay "Fire Safe" I wouldn't trade it for an Urban or Suburbia lifestyle.. Now there is some serious talk of becoming Dockside Live-aboard boat bums when Shan retires :p

I wish I could have done the fresh basil, but the drive to town was out, and I haven't had much luck keeping it alive in the garden. Being in a Zone 4 Micro climate gardening is a challenge for us, besides I ain't that great at it anyway hehehe

I might try growing it again in the house Hmmmmm

It will be here from now on, presumably in different strains like flu.

Maybe my basic immunology is rusty but like flu, once exposed and recognized by the body, those who get it (and survive) will be immune to that particular strain. I think we're at 400 deaths in the U.S. as of today. Tragic, but in a nation of a few hundred million, that also means there are millions who are now or soon will be immunized due to exposure. That's a good thing.

Very flawed math. Only is applicable if one infectious person gets into a non infected society. Highly unlikely. More than likely there will be many many people doing the infecting, at the same time, considering how contagious it is.
Me, I just went shopping with the wife, we picked up necessaries. Corn chips, hot sauce, and cream cheese. Wife can't live without them.
We went farther out, to a more country area, and people were less panicky than in our area. No runs on Toilet paper, no runs on bottled water, but there were runs on Fritos and fried Pork Rinds.
We also shopped at a few more stores, picking up odds and ends.
OH, we took the Diesel Truck out, and let it's diesel fumes kill a few viruses, while out. Kill two birds with one stone, or something like that.

Thinking back to my College days, with Virology, and Immunology courses, it could be more complex. We dont know what is, or if there is, a rate of reinfection.
    Just something to think about.
Time to go out and exercise.

I'm not so sure human immune systems will be able to cope like with other strains of flu (by the way, H1N1, which leapt from pigs, originated in the U.S.). If this virus is a chimera of two separate strains, one of which previous affected bats, we have to consider what that means. Bats have hyper-aggressive immune systems, and so viruses and bacteria in that species evolved to become hyper-aggressive themselves in order to adapt to the animals' white blood cells. Human immune systems aren't nearly as resilient, leaving us much more vulnerable. Add to that viruses' tendency to mutate quickly, a hyper-aggressive virus would naturally mutate far faster than humans' weaker immune systems can handle.

I'll be doing SOME excercising-but here at home. With this late-March snow, I predict the moods of the regulars at the gym will be more negative.

Take a look to Europe and learn from our mistakes.

Look to Germany vs Italy and Spain.

The Brits a week ago were betting on herd immunity, keep calm and carry on. Look to Boris Johnson's today measures

This is a strange virus, so many variables.

I am pretty sure H1N1 Originated in Mexico the the closest Swine strain I understand also came from Asia

    eLife digest
In 2009 a new influenza virus jumped from pigs to humans and spread very rapidly, causing an initial outbreak in Mexico and becoming a global pandemic in just a few months. Although the most straightforward explanation is that the virus originated in swine in Mexico, several studies suggested that this was unlikely because key genetic components of the virus had never been detected in the Americas. Determining the source of the disease is critical for predicting and preparing for future influenza pandemics.

Logic, reason and common sense is exactly what will protect people and their loved ones. Running errands hardly qualifies as panic. Buying 500 rolls of toilet paper, on the other had, is kinda losing it. Panic is a loss of control over one's emotions, causing people to act irrationally. That typically leads to poor outcomes.

I have seen a few individuals recently who were wild-eyed with fear. What the heck? That is rather scary, knowing we now live in a society with snowflakes who implode at the slightest disturbance. Not everyone is like that, but it certainly does not bode well for the future. Contrast that with the 1989 earthquake, which struck with zero warning. We still had water, but no electricity or phone service for over a week. That also meant most stores were closed, and the few that were open had no deliveries, gas stations could not operate their pumps, etc. Provisions were pretty much what folks had on hand. People didn't lose their marbles then, and that situation was far more challenging than shelter in place.

People in my area have just about had it with the quarantine, and many are now starting to ignore it.

Contempt for panic, which endangers people and their families if anything. The resulting chaos and hysteria does not protect them.

Barbershop and my bank are closed. Looks like I'll be a "long-haired hippie freak" by the time the b-shop re- opens. Ahhhh, that's all right, just so long as I'm clean-shaven.
