Another Snailforge / Gemstar Collaboration :)

The steel was left rough with only the blade being polished to a Satin finish

Rocky Mountain Elk Antler scales (Vacuum Chamber stabilized) lined with .030 Forest Green G10,
Combined thickness of .120" using an Amber wedge..
Brass triple stacked Beehive washers and solid Brass pins

Screwing around with a chunk of Elk Antler and made a 28 mm HMW Stubby brush too, with an Amber base

Way more time then I every imagined went into getting the Elk Antler to be functional and stable as Razor scales and still be thin enough to flex...

    Honing: Chosera 1-5-10, Zulu Finish

    Very interesting....and nicely done!
I've not seen the material used before (the antler) for scales and I imagine using it brings with it a host of challenges!
Does it sand/shape well? Sealer applied? I do like the 'rustic' natural appearance and how it ties in with the blade.

Great looking razor and brush set!:happy088:

Kev it was all of the nightmares of all the materials all rolled into one

I love the look, but perhaps I am way too OCD for the material, I just don't like scales that are near 1/8 or .125" thick I think they look "Bulky"
You start thinning down Natural materials and that brings on a whole host of issues as you well know, and this stuff isn't structurally strong enough to go without the liners for Razor Scales..
That brings in the issue of two separate flex rates on the scales

Oh yeah tons of fun hehehe
