Fresh off the hones today… Process: Chosera Pro 1k > Norton 4k > Norton 8k > Escher stone 10k. Linen & leather strop. The blade took a very keen edge with relative ease, so I now have a bare forearm where I was testing the razor throughout the process (near BBS! ) I was VERY tempted to shave with it, but decided to go ahead and polish & pack it up for Mitch.
If you strop it regularly you shouldn't need any refreshment for a while. I'd add tape only if I'm taking it to hone it. CrOx paste on a felt strop is a good refresher for some.
Shall do... my crox is on a homemade 2in bench strop...Very cool easy easy Kevin, that last polish on the blade really made the blade dang near factory fresh . Take care.
"No risk, no reward!" Dan! Although the large blade may be intimidating, I've actually drawn more blood from using DE razors than I've had from hundreds of straight razor shaves!
You are so right Kevin. I am much more likely to bleed with a DE than a SR. The only time I bleed with a SR is when I am hung over and that is not often at my age. lol
Thanks, Glen! This one tested my patience a bit as I found the streaky horn blanks to be REALLY stubborn in getting the stuff to yield to my attempts at keeping it from twisting or warping. I'm happy to report I eventually won the battle of wills....
Boiled. Clamped between two flat boards. Repeat as necessary. I initially did the above to the whole blank. Did it again post-rough cutting of the shapes. Repeated again 2x after I had the scales shaped and contoured. Eventually, after the 3rd and final boil and pressure clamp, the horn submitted itself to remaining flat and straight. So far, so good......
