Just for grins, I dug out the Dollar General blades for an experiment. I got 5 decent shaves and a warning on the sixth, but still no nicks or burn. However, I don't have a very coarse beard and I'm sure that has an impact.

I tried the dollar general blades. They have a tendency to suddenly decide to chew my face off mid shave.

ASR actually has a web site from which one can order directly for consummer products. The Medical Personnas are not offered on it.

Just a reminder that American Safety Razor (aka GEM, Personna, Bump Fighter and PAL) is actually owned and made by Wilkinson Sword/Schick now.. just for the new folks that don't know ASR got bought in a bankruptcy sale last year by Energizer - yes, the battery company - who also owns Wilkinson Sword and Schick in the United States.

The real question is who knows how long it will be before ASR is truly consolidated into Wilkinson Sword/Schick and these brands simply go away.

I've wondered that a few times. I guess the first time we ever see Energizer's name on the back of a pack of Personna blades, we'll know they are finally making a move... I think they have tons of old stock/packaging they want to use up beforehand.

It really sucks that TWS is relegated to that but you are probably dead on Jody.

You guys are lucky. None of the CVS, Walgreens or Walmarts near me (and there are a million locations here) have any DE blades :( The only place I have found them was at my Waldbaums supermarket. Waldbaums brand and for my skin, they worked better than derby blades I got online so far. But I'm a newbie, still cutting myself up so I will be experimenting alot in the weeks to come.

I agree with jaymo the WalMart DEs are cheaper by the 10 pack than the CVS/Walgreens variety. Since y'all mentioned Wilkinson in India the Wilkison brand is owned by Gillette so if you get Indian Wilkinson products you're buying Gillette from the Indian factory. Indian Wilkinson blades are good and can be had for a little more than a dime per blade on the www. Just my dos centavos worth- ymmv- and probably will......

Thanks swarden43, I'll have to check that out. I don't get into NYC too often, I'm more of a country guy and spend alot of weekends up in the country but that is definitely good to know!

The Dollar General DE blades used to be rebranded Personnas. I have a couple packs of them that I bought last year at Dollar General that are such.
Fred's stores used to sell rebranded Personna Injector blades, as did CVS. I bought both last year
I doubt that Energizer will do away with the Personna brand and plant. Having tried out one of my Personna DE blades today, for the first time in about a year, I find the Personna blades to shave closer than the German made Wilkies. They also seem to stay shaving sharp longer. The Wilkies are a good mild blade for shower shaving, but they don't last me more than 3-4 shaves.
I don't see the Chicom Injector blades taking over the lab market nor do I see the ASR SE blades going away for the same reason.
The Chicom-garbage Wilkie Atra carts aren't anywhere near as good as the Personna Atra carts, nor do they last as long.
Imagine trying to shave with a Chinese-garbage SE blade, given how bad their DE and cartridge blades are. I can't speak for the Chinese-garbage Injector blades, but I know my Personna Injector blades are extremely sharp, give a close/comfortable shave, and last a LOT longer than my Chinese-garbage Wilkie Atra carts.

I think I'll order a bunch of stuff from the Personna website. I'll get SE/DE blades, as well as Atra and Sensor carts and a Personna Sensor handle. May even try some Personna Trac II carts and a Bump Fighter Trac II handle.

ETA: WalMart doesn't show Wilkinson Sword products on it's website now. Now it's listing Personna products again. They have 3 packs of Personna DE blades for sale on the website.

I actually bought a pack of CVS blades yesterday -- couldn't resist and my sampler pack is getting low.

I have to say, they seem pretty great, and I like the idea of the He wants the precious. Always he is looking for it... But we mustn't let him have it.")

convenience of picking these up at a CVS. Although, that said, the store nearest to me does not seem to carry these. These were bought at the store about 10 miles away, near my wife's place of work. Paid $7.92.

I take that original comment back. In looking at my receipt it was only $5.82 with tax. Got me 10 blades. It's $5.49 on the CVS web site.

The difference for me in this case was that I had a store rewards coupon good for $5.00 off any purchase in shaving. Which brought my out of pocket down to $0.82. I think if I hadn't had the coupon I probably would have bought a pack of blades off eBay or somewhere like that.

That said, if I were truly desperate -- like traveling and forgot to put blades in my checked luggage and had to buy locally -- I'd buy them at full price. They seem like decent blades.

I love stuff to be local.
but I wish the stuff was properly labeled and some choices would be nice.
    dream on,I know.

I have read that also. If you have a CVS Card they are $5.50 here in San Diego County.

Yeah, periodically all the CVS brands go on sale if you have a CVS card. Or if you get your Rx's filled at a CVS and have a card, sometimes you get CVS Reward Bucks like I did, which makes stuff like this an even better deal! And I do like being able to impulse-buy or go get some the same day if I run out. So you pay more for that convenience, to be sure.

so they're personna's if they're from south korea? everyone has told me these were dorcos.

mine had the exact same packaging as the walgreens photo in this thread, and I got them at my local grocery store.

If the CVS brand was different I would give them a try, but the south korean blades didn't like my face.
