Nah, don't know that chain. We've got several liquor stores that sell high test and craft beers so I'll just have to check around some more.
A Colorado Stout I've somehow managed to overlook. Guess I have something to put on the "to try list".
If you like Yuengling Black and Tan, try the Porter. A little closer to a Guinness on taste but at the same price as B&T.
Well, I tried the Dixie Blackened Voodoo Lager and it had a funny "off" taste I really couldn't identify. I have no idea what it was but I didn't care for it it at all. On the plus side Anchor Porter has edged past Bully Porter in my affections , although it is a close race. 1554 retains the number one spot. Honorable mention also goes to Fat Tire Amber Ale. I'm really liking New Belgium products it seems. I really can't understand the difference between Porter and Stout and neither do the people who brew the beer, or so it seems to me. Anyway, next up I'd like to try an Oatmeal Stout or two. Old farts like me need that healthy Oatmeal.
I just suddenly remembered about another one perfect beer brand: Gusta Dark. Produced by EFES in Turkey. It's a dark weissbeer. Very... very... very good.
Had a Sam Smith Imperial Stout last night. Nice and meaty. I like the Sam Smith Oatmeal Stout a bit more though. Can't go wrong with either one though.
Drinking a Tetley's English Ale right now. It's kinda flat for me though. Very drinkable. Not nearly as dark as say Guiness or Black and Tan. In fact Idk if it's even considered a dark beer. Darker than PBR which is my go to beer.:happy036
Ok now I am drinking a Shiner Bohemian black lager. Better than the Tetleys IMO. Not bitter like some dark beers. Very drinkable. I usually don't venture out much in my beer selection. Because of price more than anything. But decided the other day to treat myself a little. :signs015 "Once it touches your lips it's so good."
I'm not well-versed enough about beers to know more specifics about "darks"... But Empyrean makes a really good Vanilla Porter I like. And Karl Strauss makes some great darks! I like Strauss Stout, but the August "Extra Dark" is good too. I don't believe that one you can purchase outside of the brewery.
I am definitely going to try a Vanilla Porter. One caught my eye the last time I was in the store, although I don't think it was the brand Batness mentioned. I saw Shiner black lager also and will try that. I tried Schlafly Oatmeal Stout. Meh... I found it a bit bland. 1554 is still number one. Anchor Porter is without a doubt my favorite porter. Still working on the stout.
You guys have got to try Heavy Seas "Peg Leg". It is a Baltimore, MD brewed beer. Very nice imperial stout. Great mocha head with a leathery/vanilla finish. No hint of the high ABV with this one (8%). This is the best overall stout I have had yet, and there have been MANY!!
Now this is a great topic. One of my favorite things. Ahh dark beer. Lets see: Guinness Youngs Double Chocolate Stout Old Rasputin Murphys Stout Beamish Stout Rouge Hazelnut Brown Ale Kona Brewing Co's Pipeline Porter Kona Brewing Co's Grind Samuel Smiths Nut Brown Ale Samuel Smiths Oatmeal Stout
I gotta try it! I see it at the liquor store all the time but have been swayed by the IPAs lately. I'll make a point to grab it next weekend.
Young's Double Chocolate Stout Rocks! Belhaven Scottish Ale is one of the best beers that is relatively easy to find, and highly rated on Beer Advocates dot com http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/148/1163/
While looking at the beer isle today I saw Heavy seas "loose Cannon" and bought some. It is an excellent IPA.
