Amen. Im glad that double and triple IPAs have kind of died out. Im glad to see them go to IPAs that are cut with some kind of fruit juice to knock down the bitterness. It makes them so much more drinkable.
I like IPA’s but those that are not very bitter. One that I’ve found to be less bitter is Dogfish Head. Their 90 minute IPA is just delicious. And since I drink far less beer than I used to, I don’t mind paying for quality since the quantity is gone.
Guiness is wonderful if you are eating only a light meal or snack. For heavier meals I prefer a strong ale or a medium bodied lager. Sameul Smith makes some fine ones. Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy -- Benjamin Franklin.
I really don't like the way Guinness tastes in the U.S. What they import is not the same as what you get abroad. I'm pretty sure it has to do with the water and where the ingredients are sourced for the version that is available here. Recently the same thing happened to U.S. New Castle, it used to be my favorite beer, but the U.S. import version has moved production, and I can tell the difference, it's just not the same, for the worse. As far as imports go; St. Peters Cream Stout is the best hands down, while Samuel Smith has several outstanding Stouts and Nut Bron Ale, and lets not forget Youngs Double Chocolate Stout, Murphy's Irish Stout, or Smithwick's Irish Ale. If you are on the East Coast; I highly suggest Duck Rabbit Milk Stout. As for the "Extra Stout" aspect; you are missing out if you haven't tried Founders Breakfast Stout, or SunUp White Russian Imperial Coffee Stout.
If you can find it-Abita Turbo Dog.I describe it as Guiness without the cigarette ashes.Weresgruner Dark is nice ,though on the lighter end of the spectrum.
It's not widely distributed, but if you ever see Pisgah Brewing Co. Valdez Breakfast Stout from Asheville, NC I highly recommend it.
Smith makes a nut brown? Hmm, I got to find that. A local brewer in NC made one that was my go to before I hung it all up. One from Smith won't hurt me.
If you like darks, you need to try Chimay. I prefer the blue label. It is pricey, but well worth it IMO.
Haven't seen it but will look, I expect my selection is bigger down here in Tampa that it was up north.
