W It seems a lot of people are huge fans of the Route 66 I will have to look online for some in the UK. What is the fine L'orange like? I absolutely love the snake bite for the menthol cooling and I'm considering more from the fine range
The Route 66 is an excellent shave soap. You can go to www.retroshaveshop.com and check their soaps. I'm sure they will ship some to you.
G thanks for the link Douglas I will check it out do you have any suggestions for post shave similar to the cooling snake bite provides?
Pain Stick Focus December 15: Homemade PS Oil VDH Boar Brush Mitchell's Wool Fat CJB Pain Stick British Gillette Tech (V1) Stirling Unscented PSB Brut Classic AS Just before I started my shave, I considered using my birth quarter British Tech instead of the Pain Stick. I was running late, and I was thinking through everything I had to do today before I need to leave early for the kids Christmas program at school. Normally, I can push everything out of my mind and enjoy the shave. Today, I just couldn't get there. I went with the Pain Stick and was working a first pass on my neck, I have a meeting at 10:00, oops a little slice there. Need to focus on shaving, back to my chin, need to work on employee reviews, that one hurt. Oh, the blood is flowing there. I finished up the first pass and gave my face a rinse. At this point I decided to pick up the Tech for the second pass. I lathered up again and ready for the second pass. At this point, I noticed my face oddly resembled a barber pole with the white lather and streaks of blood. A quick second pass and some alum to stop the flow. Then my wife came in, and saw the blood, so I had to listen to short speech about not using a knife to shave with. I walk away from this shave a bit confused. The last time I listened to the voice in my head, I made what now seems like 10 passes on my neck and had a ring of fire there for and entire day. This time, I didn't listen the voice, and ended up with some blood loss. I guess I need to work on figuring out when to listen and when not to. I did learn that I can't consider the Pain Stick automatic. Tomorrow will be better. On a separate note, my son (he'll be 5 in two weeks) wanted me to post his shave he plans to have this morning. So here it is: He set up the stuff and told me the picture to take. He is pretty proud of it. Have a great day.
That is brilliant you have your son involved my boy is two years old and already I can't wait to teach him the ways starting at a young age like you have at least I have plenty of time to get as well practiced as all of you on TSD I will also have an impressive collection by that time it is my intention my son will not even know of the existence of cartridges
Here the scent description from the Fine website. "L’Orange Noir was inspired by Terre d'Hermes and is a scent that defies categorization. A totally unique, yet thoroughly sublime blend - pairing fresh orange rind with rich, earthy minerals" I am a fan of both the L'Orange and the Platinum. The Snake Bite does have 5 time the menthol as the other Fine Aftershaves.
First off, welcome back . . . I think. Now to address some of your points 1. The motion was timely filed and, even if it was not, there was no objection filed to its consideration. As a result, you are without jurisdiction to contest the consideration of the argument. 2. You are correct, so I guess that gets you points for paying attention but not in the final decision. 3. Sometimes bad shaves happen, which also mean sometimes bad passes happen. So, ipso facto, it is "possible" (which was the word I used) the angle was off. It was not conceded as fact, but only acknowledged as a possibility. 4-6. @Bama Samurai filed his motion to reconsider, and the case was reconsidered. The final outcome is still in question. When considering apples to apples and not cigars to pipes, the settings have run pretty even . . . so far. Now as for my shaves Saturday and Sunday. You are conceding that your settings are not sufficient to provide for a full day's quality shave. That will be considered when a final opinion is drafted. Instead of being honored that I entrusted that shave to your settings, you instead try and manipulate the facts to maintain the shave was unfair. Well, lets set the record straight . . . Since you like bullet points I will do the same again here. 1. Both the Saturday and Sunday shaves occurred in the morning as it was the only time available to shave with all the activities planned. So both shaves occurred in the morning. 2. Saturday's shave had 2 days growth and Sunday's had 1 day growth. 3. Both shaves had "magnitude of the event" consideration as both evenings consisted of dinners and evening festivities. 4. Both shaves were considered immediately after shaving and several hours later by my fiancee and the Saturday shave just did not meet her expectations. As a result, when major events occur in the future, I may have to go with Chris's settings, especially in light of the concession above. Your counterproductive whining will be construed as your motion to reconsider, and it is denied. I do wish to edify you regarding my role. I am not your advocate (your bribe was not nearly good enough for me to assume that role). I am the neutral and impartial judge in this proceeding. Keep up the complaining and I may send Igor your way to explain the difference to you. You will only wish for Finally, threatening the welfare of a judge is a federal offense. The FBI (Federation of Boris and Ivan) will be stopping by for, well, let's just call it an interrogation. Chris may win this by default because his opponent may have to withdraw based on exceptional circumstances. Good luck!
SOTD December 15, 2015 Prep: Hot Shower. Axe Energizing Face Wash Boost Razor: Mongoose B3 Dr. Bomber Handle Blade: Kai Captain Original Lather: MdC Brush: Oscar11 Rootbeer/Black 28mm Silvertip Post: Thayers Cucumber WH. Gold Bond Ultimate Aftershave: Gingers Garden Aventus Wow I landed a beautiful brush! Thanks JR!! The Oscar11 is BIG! Had no problems whipping up a mountain of MdC, the Mongoose is a pleasure to use. Overall a fantastic shave. Never let the things you WANT Make you forget the things you HAVE!
According to testing done by @Drygulch Osage Rub has a pretty good menthol level. I think the Formula K from Myrsol is also a good menthol AS. I have used the Ice Blue Aqua Velva for a light menthol effect. Finally, I know you are in the UK so I don't know how bad shipping would be, but the TSD store has some amazing aftershaves and can put in some serious menthol!
What a great moment with your son! He is very talented with the SOTD picture! Sorry the rest of the shave did not go as planned. I think the lesson for the voices in your head is choose the opposite of whichever way sounds more like what Ivan, Boris, or @NCoxSTL would do or want you to do.
December 30 Day Focus--Gillette Executive and Stirling Kong December 15 Razor - 1958 Gillette Executive Adjustable (WTG 7, ATG 7) Blade - Gillette Silver Blue (3) Brush - Stirling Kong Soap - Stirling MITA Post - Cold water, witch hazel, TSD ISZ I will try to use brevity today to make @Rufus T. happy. I decided to move up a notch on the Executive this morning. Also decided that I would use the same setting for both my passes to establish a baseline for the upcoming shaves in which I switch the first and second passes around. The Stirling combo of soap and brush established an excellent later that could have provided 3 more passes for me without a problem. I put a little more warm water on the soap than usual this morning. It really got it hydrated and ready to explode. I also face lathered, which feels great with the Stirling. I may try it coming up with the VDH boar and the AOS badger to see how they perform. The Executive definitely felt more aggressive today. The move from 4 to 5 was fairly subtle. The move from 5-6 was a little more noticeable. The move from 6-7 was definitely noticeable. I paid attention to the necessary angle, which I could tell was different than that used the past couple of shaves. Don't think I got the angle right to start with because I had a little irritation on my neck, chin, and jawline. Not bad, but definitely there. The two pass shave was excellent for closeness. The first pass was great reduction and the second cleared everything away effortlessly. A couple areas of minor touch up and I had a near BBS shave. I say near because after the last cold water splash I did notice a little roughness around my Adam's apple, which will always be the hardest spot for me. A very good shave, even with the minor irritation. The first month or two of shaving this level of irritation would have been great. Now I find that I am not happy about it because I know it means I was off in my technique. As @Bama Samurai always says and @Bird Lives reminded, TTT! And yes, Vince, I know I failed at the brevity part. At least it is shorter than the last one!
I'm looking for a советник for the cartel. Think consigliere in the amateur mob. Yuri will be stopping by to make you an offer you can't refuse. On the positive side, he's bringing vodka. And concrete. Your choice.
Sometimes you gotta listen to that little voice. Too many times it's Ivan on the loose and we know how reliable he is! You have discovered the truth that when running short of time and having too many things on your mind to get there it can be a dangerous proposition with the pain stick. I skipped a couple of shaves completely last month basically for that reason. As for your wife, be sure to explain to her that it isn't a knife. It's far sharper and more dangerous than a knife. It's deadly, really, so no comparison at all. That should make her feel better.
